February 28, 2018

Last night I got less than seven hours of sleep, so I've felt tired all day. I imagine the same will happen tonight.

When I got to work I was off desk for two hours. I started my day by composing Thank You notes for the two paramedics who presented last night. I also emailed back and forth with the teen librarian, a little bit about adulting, but mostly about the really passive aggressive post on the staff blog from one of the IT guys. It was about not affixing anything to the digital display signs. This was obviously directed at the teen librarian and myself because last night she used some sticky tack to attach one of our adulting posters to the side of the display in the atrium. No harm was done but it was apparently not appreciated. But it led to some fun emails back and forth with the teen librarian. The funny thing is that they got upset about that, but yesterday was also when the teen librarian and I pulled one of the other displays off the wall so I could fix the Raspberry Pi. I was already told how to fix them, so I kind of had permission to do that, but if they're getting worked up about a harmless sign, I can't imagine the post about unplugging things.

I had three walkthroughs after that. During one of them I ran into my sister's friend again. Now I just need to run into their mom and brother and I'll have the whole family. The brother will be the hard one though because he lives in Hawaii, but we'll see. In between all the walkthroughs I talked to my coworkers and worked on an idea for a display sign.

On my way to my car for lunch there was a guy on the sidewalk a little ways in front of me. All of a sudden he shouting “Fucking bitches!” at the top of his lungs. I was on pace to overtake him but decided to slow down a bit to keep my distance. He crossed the street a little while later, thankfully. The good thing is that he was walking away from the library, not toward it. He didn't seem to be in the best state of mind to be a responsible library patron.

I was on desk for two hours after lunch and that time was mostly spent on my display sign idea. I don't think I'll ever use it for anything but I really just wanted to see what it would look like. But it is super tedious, comprised of a bunch of squares each colored a different shade of green. The tedious part is that I'm using Publisher, which really isn't designed for this and it takes way too many steps to recolor a square. I'm following a pattern for the color and realized near the end of my desk time that I had messed up fairly early on, which threw off everything I did after that, so I had to go back and erase all the progress I had made while on desk. That was a little annoying.

I had a walkthrough after that and then went down to the basement to cut raffle tickets with the big cutter. I think the blade needs sharpening. But I managed. And now there are 1000 raffle tickets, almost cut to perfection.

I was supposed to be off desk after that, but other than printing off my display sign for tomorrow, I was basically on desk. The librarian on desk went to go clear out a bunch of books from a closet, took them to the basement, went and printed a bunch stuff, and probably did a few other things that are slipping my mind. So while on desk, I caught up on the news and worked on the previous display idea with all the boxes.

After dinner I picked up Chipotle and it took me a few laps to get a parking spot, but I persisted. Then I headed to my Mom's to eat, talk about random things, and watch YouTube videos.

I got home sometime after 8:30PM, played a little CoD: WW2, watched videos, and clicked around the internet.

And now I'm freaking tired. Every time I blink it takes a little too much effort to open my eyes again. So I'm going to call this good. I have to open in the morning and I'm going to get less than seven hours of sleep. Can't wait.
