This morning I woke up in time to run on the elliptical, get ready,
eat lunch, and get to work by noon. I had two walkthroughs when I
got to work. I refilled DVDs, updated the webpage for today's tech
class, and talked to the teen librarian about the adulting class
tonight and the future of the series, while fixing one of our digital
display signs (because multitasking). Spoiler alert on the future of
adulting, we're not going to be doing it next semester. We both have
a lot going on and we obviously haven't figured out how to make
people interested in it, so we're going to take a step back and maybe
consider a different approach in the future.
I was on desk for three hours after that. I started looking back at
my shipment notifications for the tax forms and it appeared that
maybe we had received the 1040 forms, which are the ones I have been
waiting on. With the 1040A forms they put them in the box with the
1040A instruction books, so I left the desk for a second and went
digging through the boxes of 1040 instruction books, and... I found
the 1040 forms buried under a stack of books. Whoops. But at least
we have them. And it only cost me one big paper cut on the back of
my hand. I also made a post to the staff blog to let everyone know
that we have all the forms in case patrons ask about it. I also used
a great GIF that involved glitter.
I also helped patrons with computer things, like finding tax forms,
and I found some tutorials for my boss. I was motivated by not
wanting to make the tutorials myself. I also made an example Twinery
post for one of the other librarians to post on social media, read a
few library-related articles, and I showed a dad how to set up
parental controls on a Kindle Fire. A fairly productive three hours.
After dinner I had a walkthrough, refilled my DVDs, helped a patron
with a computer thing, and then eventually started setting up for the
class tonight with the teen librarian. The class itself was very
close to not happening because they wanted at least four people
signed up and we had one. But luckily a fellow librarian and her
husband, my boss and one of her sons, and the head of maintenance,
all signed up, and actually showed up. And that's good because the
one patron who signed up ended up canceling.
The teen librarian ducked out when the class started because she has
a cold and her medicine was running out. And the class was pretty
informal because it was all library people there and the two
paramedics were really laid back. They talked about their jobs for
the first forty-five minutes or so and then transitioned into
answering questions and talking broadly about first aid. Then we
went to look at the ambulance. They brought their biggest one so we
were all able to get inside while they showed us around, and then we
were shown all the compartments on the outside. Overall, it was a
really good class and it was pretty much what I was hoping for. It's
only a shame that we didn't have more people show up.
We had thirty minutes to look at the ambulance, and it felt like
that's about how much time it took, but afterward while we were
walking back to the library, they were just about to lock the doors.
So we ended up spending about an hour looking at the ambulance. Time
flies. I ended up leaving my notebook and water bottle in the
auditorium because we were already running late and it had been
locked up. And there was a little running around but we managed to
get out of the building by 9:06PM, which is good because if it had
been one minute longer I would have had to make up fifteen minutes
for the time and a half of overtime.
It is now almost midnight and I'm typing with my eyes closed because
I'm tired and want to go to bed. But not before I record my audio
journal.
