Last night I didn't get as much sleep as I would have liked. I got
to bed a little after midnight and I woke up a couple times
throughout the night, including this morning at 5:37AM. Not a great
time to wake up when my alarm is set for six o'clock. It was
tempting to just stay up but I ended up turning the remaining time
into a brief nap. And then I got up, ran on the elliptical, got
ready, and went to work.
I did the usual opening stuff, including some other stuff, which
meant I only had time to sharpen a few pencils. I refilled my DVD
display and then lost a lot of time trying to find a big stand to put
the new jigsaw puzzle picture in. We used to have one in one of our
closets but we are cleaning it out in anticipation of the remodel. I
checked there anyway, then in the other closet, and then in the
basement, but I couldn't find it anywhere, so the patrons are just
going to have to work with the picture on the box.
I was on desk for two hours when we opened. I finished my tech quiz,
answered a bunch of phone calls, and caught up on news articles.
After that I had a walkthrough and spent the rest of that hour
looking up examples of Twinery games. There are so many cool
games/stories out there and every time I look up examples it makes me
wish I could stick with it and make something cool as well.
After lunch I was off desk for an hour, then on desk for an hour. I
spent that time emailing with the guy from EMS about the upcoming
class. They were planning on bringing a crew and an ambulance, but
at the moment we only have one person signed up. If we can't get
more people signed up we'll have to cancel the class because it
wouldn't make sense for an active crew to bring an ambulance for a
single person (when it isn't an emergency). It's a little late for
that class but I emailed the new PR lady to see if she had any ideas
for promoting the two classes in March because no one is signed up
for those at the moment. They're either not interesting to people or
the people don't know about them. Either way, it's not looking good.
In a last-ditch effort to drum up attendance so I we don't have to
cancel the EMS class, I made a post on the staff blog that will
hopefully get some staff members to sign up. It would be nice if I
had a large group of friends that I could rally for these times where
I need to fill some seats.
I also decided to reuse the green display I did last March so I can
pull a bunch of green-cover books. It makes me happy. And It is
very nearly March again and I have no other ideas.
At four o'clock I had my monthly meeting with my boss. That started
with her being annoyed at my response to an email she sent out this
afternoon. I was probably a little too sarcastic, and I replied-all
to everyone in the department. So that was awkward but communication
helped. An hour later we also ended the meeting by talking about it
again, so she was obviously still a little perturbed but I think
we're good now.
As for the meeting itself, it went well. We talked about the future
of the tech classes/workshops and adulting. Going into the meeting I
was feeling disappointed about the lack of interest in the adulting
class. It's frustrating when I do a class or workshop and no one
shows up, but it is on a whole different level when we're inviting
someone to the library to present and we can't get people to attend.
I feel it reflects poorly on myself, which I don't like. But talking
it through with my boss helped. And tomorrow the teen librarian will
be back (she was off today) so I can talk to her about it as well.
This too shall pass.
When I got home I played a little CoD: WW2 before eating
dinner and watching videos. And then I played more CoD: WW2
so I could take advantage of the last bit of double XP. I made it up
to level 41, so about halfway the level 55 (if you go by XP), so
that's not bad. I think I was around level twelve, if not lower,
when I started playing again this weekend. If the DLC maps keep
things fresh I'm feeling pretty confident about being able to reach
max prestige. I'm halfway through sixth prestige, and max is tenth,
so I'm getting there. Although it has taken me 243 hours to get
where I am now, which means I have like 150 hours to go, give or take
a lot of hours because that's really rough math. It sounds like a
lot of hours though, probably because it is. We'll see. A lot can
happen between now and however long that takes.
I also played a little bit of Subnautica. I added a new alien
containment tank on top of my existing one so now I have one big one.
I think I can stack up to five, so that's a goal. I also tried to
create a new scanner room in another part of the map but I had
trouble with resources and then I couldn't get the thermal power
plant to connect. It was really tempting to keep messing with it but
it was getting late and I knew I would get completely sucked in if I
kept going. But now I've been writing this forever because I've been
distracted by videos and livestreams.
We've finally made it to the point in the evening where I record my
audio journal. If I don't ramble too long I should still be able to
get eight hours of sleep. Fingers crossed.
