Last night I got nine and a half hours of sleep and it was exactly
what I needed. I wish every night could be like that. Even if I
only needed seven hours, I could just lay there for awhile. That
would be awesome. Maybe when I retire.
When I woke up I ran on the elliptical, got ready, and went to work.
One librarian was sick, one was on vacation, and one was off for the
weekend, so it was just my boss and me until 2:30PM when one of the
assistants came in. There was a steady flow of things happening but
overall it was a fairly quiet day, thankfully.
I was on desk for the first two hours and the first thing I did was
track down an article a patron had called about before I got to work.
We didn't have access to it but the university did, so I called her
back and left a message letting her know that. I also reserved
vehicles for an upcoming outreach event and read articles.
After a walkthrough I printed out maps and directions for a patron.
I have done this before and learned that when printing Google
directions with the map, the map is too small and the directions
almost always go onto a second page (which is annoying because then
you have to flip pages while driving). My new method is to print
just directions because they'll all be on one page, and then zoom in
on the map and screenshot it so I can make it as big as possible on a
single page. It works pretty well but it is a bit of a convoluted
hassle to put it all together.
I also showed another patron our section of books on writing. She
was super pumped by how big the section was and we had a really good
conversation about libraries. She teaches an employment class and
always asks the students where they can go to research careers and
stuff in general, and they never say the library. So then she goes
on a long rant about how great libraries are. I said we need to
start paying her for every person she talks into going to the
library. She's a full grown adult but kept saying she wants to be a
librarian when she grows up. It was funny.
I helped a patron figure out printing and I also showed him how to
attach files in an email. During that process I just happened to
catch a misspelling in the title of one of his documents and he was
pretty thankful about that because it was a business thing.
On my dinner break I moved a not-so-mini fridge for my Mom in the
basement. I picked it up from the floor and put it on a small
cabinet but it looked kind of weird so I suggested one of the end
tables that was down there. So I went to eat dinner and my Mom moved
things around. Before I left I moved it to the end table and it
looked much better. Maybe I should become an interior designer.
Throughout the day I worked on editing our website, adding pages for
each of the tech classes. It took me awhile to figure things out and
decide how I wanted to do things, but near the end of the day I got
on a role and I kind of wanted to keep going but eventually time ran
out. It's something to look forward to on Monday because there is
still a lot to do.
We got out a little late because there were some last minute patrons
that didn't seem to understand that we were closed. But we got out
by 8:05PM so I don't have to worry about making up time later.
When I got home I played one game of War and was able to knock out
two daily orders and two contracts. And then I spent the rest of the
night watching videos and slowly writing this. It's been well over
an hour since I started writing this. I'll never learn.
Now I'm going to record my audio journal and then maybe play a little
Staxel before bed.
