This morning I woke up at six o'clock, after getting about five and a
half hours of sleep, and then I ran on the elliptical for fifteen
minutes. When I got up and grabbed my phone (because I use it as a
timer for running) I saw the text message saying the school district
was having a snow day based on the forecasted weather today, which
made me miss working at an elementary school. After I finished
running I noticed a voicemail from boss saying that the library
wasn't going to open today. Hooray for snow days! I was hoping for
that, obviously, but it was still a nice surprise. And because I was
supposed to open, and didn't get the message until after I ran on the
elliptical, I figured I might as well stay up and enjoy a full day
off, rather than sleeping through half of it.
Throughout the day I played a lot of Subnautica. A lot. I
started building my first base and that has been a lot of fun. There
is a creative mode which I might try out at some point just so I
build a cool base. I have made a lot of progress but I am being held
back by a lack of materials and a lack of in-game knowledge to get
the blueprints to build certain things. I am really liking the
moonpool because I learned it is not only a place to park my seamoth,
it also charges the the seamoth. My favorite thing is the scanner
room, which you an tell to scan for a certain resource and they all
pop up on a topographical map projected in the middle of the room.
This was cool but not that useful, so I just built an upgrade that
give me a HUD overlay. Now when I scan for something, I can go out
and all the locations are marked for me out in the game world. One
of the things I need a lot of is quartz, so that was my first
experiment, and it worked really well. I discovered that a lot of
quartz, at least around my base, is hidden in the grass, and I never
would have found it. At some point I will need to use that to really
grind for specific resources, and not get sidetracked by random
excursions.
Other than that, there wasn't a lot going on. I watched videos and
have come close to buying some new pens and mechanical pencils. I'm
getting somewhat close to running out of ink in the pen I use to
write my daily notes with, and it will probably be awhile before I
actually run out because I've been using it every day since the end
of October, but I'd rather be ready with a replacement than have to
use a different pen. And I have wanted a mechanical pencil for
awhile.
I roasted veggies and made rice for dinner, because that's my go-to
thing. While I ate I watched the new Thor movie and I really liked
it. It's up there with the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie
in terms of being a fun, colorful comic book movie, which is often
lacking in comic books movies, surprisingly, given the source
material. There are a lot of good bits but my favorite is probably
when Hulk is slamming Thor into the ground and Loki gets really
excited, saying something along the lines of “now you know how it
feels,” which is a great call back to one of my favorite bits in
any Avengers movie, when Loki gets slammed by Hulk. The casting of
Loki is so good because it's a character that you shouldn't like but
Tom Hiddleston somehow makes him very likeable. Also, Jeff Goldblum
nailed it.
From my occasional peeks outside it did not appear that we got the
weather we were supposed to, and the library probably could have
opened today. I also probably could have had Chipotle night with my
Mom and sister, but there was still a change of freezing rain so we
decided to try it this weekend. Although now we're supposed to get
freezing drizzle early Saturday morning that will then turn into
regular rain. If the weather interferes with my ability to go to the
book sale I'm going to be perturbed.
It is now almost 12:30AM, and I am tired. I close tomorrow, which is
annoying because I won't be able to go to the book sale tomorrow
night, but it means I can sleep in a little bit. At this point that
really just means I will potentially get a full night of sleep, but
I'll take it.
