Once again didn't get a lot of sleep last night, so that was
disappointing. At some point I'll figure out a more manageable
schedule for my life. I feel like kind of on autopilot at the moment
with not much control. I need to change things up and try to be more
engaged with life outside of work.
When I got to work this morning I did the usual opening stuff,
including pencil sharpening and grabbing a couple batteries for one
of our computer mice that had died. One of the librarians called in
sick but I think that only added one extra hour on desk to my
schedule, so it wasn't too bad.
When we opened I was on desk for two hours and it passed pretty
quickly. I answered several phone calls, dealt with purchase
requests, and sent various emails. We're starting to plan another
outreach event in September for signing college kids up for library
cards. Time goes progressively faster and I don't think it helps
that I have to plan things so far out, having to live, at least
partially, months into the future.
I had a walkthrough after that and then talked to one of my fellow
librarians for awhile about anime and other things that weren't
really work-related but kind of were because as librarians we need to
be aware of many things, including anime. I think I did something
else before lunch but it's not coming to me.
After lunch I had two hours off desk. I used that time to pull books
for my green display. I was able to get them all pulled, added to a
record set, took down the old display and got those books processed,
and set up my display. I even found the one missing book from the
previous display inside one of the card catalog drawers. Sneaky.
I still had some time left so I unboxed all of the tax form
instruction books and got them placed on the shelves behind our desk.
The boxes had been piled up in the locker room but we needed to make
more room in there. Although depending on the timeline and order of
the remodeling I may need to move them again.
I was on desk for an hour after that, and along with helping patrons,
I started researching active shooter scripts, because I have been
tasked with coming up with the cheat sheet that will go next to each
phone, so that in the event of an active shooter, anyone that is safe
and near a phone, can make an announcement. I was off desk for the
last hour of the day and spent that time continuing to work on that
project. It's a bit intense going there mentally. I was getting
stuck on the script so I spent the last little bit beginning to work
on the template for the cheat sheet. My boss wants an example for
the next managers meeting next Tuesday. Should be plenty of time.
When I got home I ate dinner, watched videos, and then played a
little bit of CoD: WW2. The
new maps were released today but I only played the new War map. They
have a 24/7 version of that map but the other ones seem to just be
mixed in with the other game modes and it never popped up for me.
I'm not sure how I feel about the new War map. When defending with a
halfway decent team it is easy to shut down the attacking team in the
first stage, and it's even easier during the third stage. That being
said, attacking can really be a pain in the ass, especially when the
other team is halfway decent and your team is not. But it seems to
go pretty quickly, so if it is sucking, it will be over fairly
quickly.
I also paid over $2000 in bills
tonight. The majority of that was two months-worth of mortgage. I
had written down on my spreadsheet that I had paid back at the end of
January for February, but apparently I didn't hit the final
confirmation button. And I never got an email about it, so I figured
I had paid. It's really annoying that you have to confirm your
payment on multiple screens. Oh well, hopefully that doesn't
negatively impact my future financial status. And it is a lesson to
always double check my bank statement following a payment, and
probably at least once a week just to keep on top of things.
It's now around eleven o'clock and
I'm going to record my audio journal and go to bed. I'm on track to
getting more than six hours of sleep tonight, and that will be really
nice.
