February 28, 2018

Last night I got less than seven hours of sleep, so I've felt tired all day. I imagine the same will happen tonight.

When I got to work I was off desk for two hours. I started my day by composing Thank You notes for the two paramedics who presented last night. I also emailed back and forth with the teen librarian, a little bit about adulting, but mostly about the really passive aggressive post on the staff blog from one of the IT guys. It was about not affixing anything to the digital display signs. This was obviously directed at the teen librarian and myself because last night she used some sticky tack to attach one of our adulting posters to the side of the display in the atrium. No harm was done but it was apparently not appreciated. But it led to some fun emails back and forth with the teen librarian. The funny thing is that they got upset about that, but yesterday was also when the teen librarian and I pulled one of the other displays off the wall so I could fix the Raspberry Pi. I was already told how to fix them, so I kind of had permission to do that, but if they're getting worked up about a harmless sign, I can't imagine the post about unplugging things.

I had three walkthroughs after that. During one of them I ran into my sister's friend again. Now I just need to run into their mom and brother and I'll have the whole family. The brother will be the hard one though because he lives in Hawaii, but we'll see. In between all the walkthroughs I talked to my coworkers and worked on an idea for a display sign.

On my way to my car for lunch there was a guy on the sidewalk a little ways in front of me. All of a sudden he shouting “Fucking bitches!” at the top of his lungs. I was on pace to overtake him but decided to slow down a bit to keep my distance. He crossed the street a little while later, thankfully. The good thing is that he was walking away from the library, not toward it. He didn't seem to be in the best state of mind to be a responsible library patron.

I was on desk for two hours after lunch and that time was mostly spent on my display sign idea. I don't think I'll ever use it for anything but I really just wanted to see what it would look like. But it is super tedious, comprised of a bunch of squares each colored a different shade of green. The tedious part is that I'm using Publisher, which really isn't designed for this and it takes way too many steps to recolor a square. I'm following a pattern for the color and realized near the end of my desk time that I had messed up fairly early on, which threw off everything I did after that, so I had to go back and erase all the progress I had made while on desk. That was a little annoying.

I had a walkthrough after that and then went down to the basement to cut raffle tickets with the big cutter. I think the blade needs sharpening. But I managed. And now there are 1000 raffle tickets, almost cut to perfection.

I was supposed to be off desk after that, but other than printing off my display sign for tomorrow, I was basically on desk. The librarian on desk went to go clear out a bunch of books from a closet, took them to the basement, went and printed a bunch stuff, and probably did a few other things that are slipping my mind. So while on desk, I caught up on the news and worked on the previous display idea with all the boxes.

After dinner I picked up Chipotle and it took me a few laps to get a parking spot, but I persisted. Then I headed to my Mom's to eat, talk about random things, and watch YouTube videos.

I got home sometime after 8:30PM, played a little CoD: WW2, watched videos, and clicked around the internet.

And now I'm freaking tired. Every time I blink it takes a little too much effort to open my eyes again. So I'm going to call this good. I have to open in the morning and I'm going to get less than seven hours of sleep. Can't wait.

February 27, 2018

This morning I woke up in time to run on the elliptical, get ready, eat lunch, and get to work by noon. I had two walkthroughs when I got to work. I refilled DVDs, updated the webpage for today's tech class, and talked to the teen librarian about the adulting class tonight and the future of the series, while fixing one of our digital display signs (because multitasking). Spoiler alert on the future of adulting, we're not going to be doing it next semester. We both have a lot going on and we obviously haven't figured out how to make people interested in it, so we're going to take a step back and maybe consider a different approach in the future.

I was on desk for three hours after that. I started looking back at my shipment notifications for the tax forms and it appeared that maybe we had received the 1040 forms, which are the ones I have been waiting on. With the 1040A forms they put them in the box with the 1040A instruction books, so I left the desk for a second and went digging through the boxes of 1040 instruction books, and... I found the 1040 forms buried under a stack of books. Whoops. But at least we have them. And it only cost me one big paper cut on the back of my hand. I also made a post to the staff blog to let everyone know that we have all the forms in case patrons ask about it. I also used a great GIF that involved glitter.

I also helped patrons with computer things, like finding tax forms, and I found some tutorials for my boss. I was motivated by not wanting to make the tutorials myself. I also made an example Twinery post for one of the other librarians to post on social media, read a few library-related articles, and I showed a dad how to set up parental controls on a Kindle Fire. A fairly productive three hours.

After dinner I had a walkthrough, refilled my DVDs, helped a patron with a computer thing, and then eventually started setting up for the class tonight with the teen librarian. The class itself was very close to not happening because they wanted at least four people signed up and we had one. But luckily a fellow librarian and her husband, my boss and one of her sons, and the head of maintenance, all signed up, and actually showed up. And that's good because the one patron who signed up ended up canceling.

The teen librarian ducked out when the class started because she has a cold and her medicine was running out. And the class was pretty informal because it was all library people there and the two paramedics were really laid back. They talked about their jobs for the first forty-five minutes or so and then transitioned into answering questions and talking broadly about first aid. Then we went to look at the ambulance. They brought their biggest one so we were all able to get inside while they showed us around, and then we were shown all the compartments on the outside. Overall, it was a really good class and it was pretty much what I was hoping for. It's only a shame that we didn't have more people show up.

We had thirty minutes to look at the ambulance, and it felt like that's about how much time it took, but afterward while we were walking back to the library, they were just about to lock the doors. So we ended up spending about an hour looking at the ambulance. Time flies. I ended up leaving my notebook and water bottle in the auditorium because we were already running late and it had been locked up. And there was a little running around but we managed to get out of the building by 9:06PM, which is good because if it had been one minute longer I would have had to make up fifteen minutes for the time and a half of overtime.

It is now almost midnight and I'm typing with my eyes closed because I'm tired and want to go to bed. But not before I record my audio journal.

February 26, 2018

Last night I didn't get as much sleep as I would have liked. I got to bed a little after midnight and I woke up a couple times throughout the night, including this morning at 5:37AM. Not a great time to wake up when my alarm is set for six o'clock. It was tempting to just stay up but I ended up turning the remaining time into a brief nap. And then I got up, ran on the elliptical, got ready, and went to work.

I did the usual opening stuff, including some other stuff, which meant I only had time to sharpen a few pencils. I refilled my DVD display and then lost a lot of time trying to find a big stand to put the new jigsaw puzzle picture in. We used to have one in one of our closets but we are cleaning it out in anticipation of the remodel. I checked there anyway, then in the other closet, and then in the basement, but I couldn't find it anywhere, so the patrons are just going to have to work with the picture on the box.

I was on desk for two hours when we opened. I finished my tech quiz, answered a bunch of phone calls, and caught up on news articles. After that I had a walkthrough and spent the rest of that hour looking up examples of Twinery games. There are so many cool games/stories out there and every time I look up examples it makes me wish I could stick with it and make something cool as well.

After lunch I was off desk for an hour, then on desk for an hour. I spent that time emailing with the guy from EMS about the upcoming class. They were planning on bringing a crew and an ambulance, but at the moment we only have one person signed up. If we can't get more people signed up we'll have to cancel the class because it wouldn't make sense for an active crew to bring an ambulance for a single person (when it isn't an emergency). It's a little late for that class but I emailed the new PR lady to see if she had any ideas for promoting the two classes in March because no one is signed up for those at the moment. They're either not interesting to people or the people don't know about them. Either way, it's not looking good. In a last-ditch effort to drum up attendance so I we don't have to cancel the EMS class, I made a post on the staff blog that will hopefully get some staff members to sign up. It would be nice if I had a large group of friends that I could rally for these times where I need to fill some seats.

I also decided to reuse the green display I did last March so I can pull a bunch of green-cover books. It makes me happy. And It is very nearly March again and I have no other ideas.

At four o'clock I had my monthly meeting with my boss. That started with her being annoyed at my response to an email she sent out this afternoon. I was probably a little too sarcastic, and I replied-all to everyone in the department. So that was awkward but communication helped. An hour later we also ended the meeting by talking about it again, so she was obviously still a little perturbed but I think we're good now.

As for the meeting itself, it went well. We talked about the future of the tech classes/workshops and adulting. Going into the meeting I was feeling disappointed about the lack of interest in the adulting class. It's frustrating when I do a class or workshop and no one shows up, but it is on a whole different level when we're inviting someone to the library to present and we can't get people to attend. I feel it reflects poorly on myself, which I don't like. But talking it through with my boss helped. And tomorrow the teen librarian will be back (she was off today) so I can talk to her about it as well. This too shall pass.

When I got home I played a little CoD: WW2 before eating dinner and watching videos. And then I played more CoD: WW2 so I could take advantage of the last bit of double XP. I made it up to level 41, so about halfway the level 55 (if you go by XP), so that's not bad. I think I was around level twelve, if not lower, when I started playing again this weekend. If the DLC maps keep things fresh I'm feeling pretty confident about being able to reach max prestige. I'm halfway through sixth prestige, and max is tenth, so I'm getting there. Although it has taken me 243 hours to get where I am now, which means I have like 150 hours to go, give or take a lot of hours because that's really rough math. It sounds like a lot of hours though, probably because it is. We'll see. A lot can happen between now and however long that takes.

I also played a little bit of Subnautica. I added a new alien containment tank on top of my existing one so now I have one big one. I think I can stack up to five, so that's a goal. I also tried to create a new scanner room in another part of the map but I had trouble with resources and then I couldn't get the thermal power plant to connect. It was really tempting to keep messing with it but it was getting late and I knew I would get completely sucked in if I kept going. But now I've been writing this forever because I've been distracted by videos and livestreams.

We've finally made it to the point in the evening where I record my audio journal. If I don't ramble too long I should still be able to get eight hours of sleep. Fingers crossed.

February 25, 2018

I got seven hours of sleep last night and then watched videos with what was left of my morning. Then I got ready, ate lunch, and then went to my Mom's house. My sister was already there and we headed down to the library for the book sale. It was pretty well picked over, which was disappointing, but I still got a few things. They were doing a massive sale today and people were talking around filling up boxes with books. There were a few people who had big trolleys with multiple boxes. It was kind of crazy. Next year, hopefully I won't be working on Friday night.

That took about an hour, and when I got home I played a little CoD: WW2, trying to take advantage of the double XP. And then it was time to go pick up Chipotle and head back to my Mom's house for dinner. It was a much delayed Chipotle night. We ate, talked, and watched videos.

When I got home, I played more CoD: WW2. I powered through more orders and contracts, including one for twenty-five pistol kills. I started by trying to do it in War, but that was a failure. I was one kill away when we got to the bridge in Operation Breakout and the other team was never in the one building that I had just enough time to run to before getting blown up for being out of bounds, and there was no way I was going to shoot someone from across the bridge. I ended up trying again, this time in hardcore FFA, and that went much better. It took me two games (I joined the first game late), but I managed to win the second game, which is rare.

And now I want to record my audio journal and go to bed. I open in the morning, so I would like to get to bed before eleven o'clock, which shouldn't be a problem because it's only just after ten o'clock right now. But we'll see how distracted I get by other things.

February 24, 2018

This morning I woke up early, after less than seven hours of sleep, and I'm not sure why, but I rolled with it. I read a graphic novel for awhile before getting out of bed. And then I didn't really do much with the rest of my day. I watched videos, played video games, and did my laundry.

I played a lot of Subnautica. I spent a really long time searching for gel sacks because they are an ingredient in a couple things I wanted to build, but I was completely unsuccessful. Eventually they showed up in my list of scannable items in my scanner room. I'm not sure why that list changes so frequently. Anyway, three showed up, so I headed out and ended up finding a whole bunch once I saw where to look for them. From what I read they were supposed to be in caves but that's apparently outdated information.

Near the end of playing I was able to build the cyclops, which is the biggest submarine in the game. It's massive, and it nearly spawned on my base. It was actually somewhat on my moonpool so I had to move it out a bit. But that's all I have driven it. I'm kind of afraid to take it out because I don't want it to get destroyed immediately. I left off in the middle of creating power cell chargers, so I can charge the expended power cells and swap them out for new ones. I also need to look into what upgrades I have access to at the moment, and possibly do some more digging around if I don't have access to anything defensive. I was able to fully upgrade the depth ability of my seamoth so now I can go down to 900 meters, while the cyclops is still has a maximum depth of 300meters. I need to take the seamoth out for a spin now that I can go so deep, but I'm also a little concerned about what sort of aggressive creatures are down that far.

I also played CoD: WW2 today. It feels like it has been a little while since I did more than just log in and get my payroll to keep my streak alive (today was the 103 day in a row, I believe). I was a little rusty but having put over two hundred hours into the game, the muscle memory came back pretty quickly. It also helped a lot that they are doing a free multiplayer weekend on PC. The vast majority of the people I played with and against were obviously brand new to the game this weekend, which made things quite a bit easier.

I got caught up with the video games so it was another late night elliptical run and shower, but I still got it done, so it counts.

It's now two o'clock in the morning, and I'm tired, so I'm going to record my audio journal and go to bed. Tomorrow afternoon I'm going to go to the book sale with my Mom and sister. And I'm hoping I don't sleep through the entire morning.

February 23, 2018

I got about seven and a half hours of sleep last night, ran on the elliptical when I woke up, and then went to work. I was on desk for two hours when I got to work and I answered a lot of phone calls. I also talked to my boss and one of the other librarians about the new workroom. But I spent most of my time reading articles and catching up on emails.

I was then off desk for an hour and took that time to refill my DVD and Mystery displays, got more printer paper, and hung up a notice near the tax information from the IRS about potentially out of date forms and finding the correct information online.

I had a walkthrough and then I was on desk for another hour. I spent most of my free time answering questions on a tech quiz. There were some pretty tricky ones so I didn't actually come close to finishing it.

After dinner I was on desk for an hour. I helped patrons and answered phone calls, but I mostly worked on the tech quiz. That involved playing with the copier a lot and looking things up online. Then I had two walkthroughs. I talked to my Mom and sister because they stopped in for the book sale. My Mom also brought me bread from Panera, so that was pretty cool. I also went and played with the scanner in order to answer one of the tech quiz questions. My boss said the answer was in the scanner tutorial, but I couldn't find that anywhere, so I played around and made my best guess as to what she wanted, which has kind of been my technique for most of the questions.

Not long before we closed I was informed by the custodian that there was a box for me in the mailroom, so I went down to grab it, and it ended up being 1040A instruction books as well as 1040A forms. We didn't have those forms yet, so that was good, and now we're just waiting on the 1040 form. Also, right before we closed, I quickly made a printed the room schedules for the weekend, because I forgot that was a thing we're doing on Friday nights now. I had just enough time to make the schedule but didn't have time to add in our logo to signify library events before printing it. Life will go on.

When I got home I ate bread and watched YouTube videos and livestreams. And after a lot more deliberation, and a few modifications to my shopping cart, I ordered my new pens and pencils. In the near-ish future my order will arrive and hopefully I will be super impressed with my over-engineered, inexpensive mechanical pencil.

And now it is after midnight because I have been incredibly distracted while writing this entry. Tomorrow I'm going to play more Subnautica, maybe some CoD: WW2, and I might go to the book sale with my Mom and sister if the weather doesn't live up to the forecasted freezing rain. If it does, Sunday is looking nice, and the already cheap books will be even cheaper. But now, I'm going to record my audio journal and go to bed.

February 22, 2018

This morning I woke up at six o'clock, after getting about five and a half hours of sleep, and then I ran on the elliptical for fifteen minutes. When I got up and grabbed my phone (because I use it as a timer for running) I saw the text message saying the school district was having a snow day based on the forecasted weather today, which made me miss working at an elementary school. After I finished running I noticed a voicemail from boss saying that the library wasn't going to open today. Hooray for snow days! I was hoping for that, obviously, but it was still a nice surprise. And because I was supposed to open, and didn't get the message until after I ran on the elliptical, I figured I might as well stay up and enjoy a full day off, rather than sleeping through half of it.

Throughout the day I played a lot of Subnautica. A lot. I started building my first base and that has been a lot of fun. There is a creative mode which I might try out at some point just so I build a cool base. I have made a lot of progress but I am being held back by a lack of materials and a lack of in-game knowledge to get the blueprints to build certain things. I am really liking the moonpool because I learned it is not only a place to park my seamoth, it also charges the the seamoth. My favorite thing is the scanner room, which you an tell to scan for a certain resource and they all pop up on a topographical map projected in the middle of the room. This was cool but not that useful, so I just built an upgrade that give me a HUD overlay. Now when I scan for something, I can go out and all the locations are marked for me out in the game world. One of the things I need a lot of is quartz, so that was my first experiment, and it worked really well. I discovered that a lot of quartz, at least around my base, is hidden in the grass, and I never would have found it. At some point I will need to use that to really grind for specific resources, and not get sidetracked by random excursions.

Other than that, there wasn't a lot going on. I watched videos and have come close to buying some new pens and mechanical pencils. I'm getting somewhat close to running out of ink in the pen I use to write my daily notes with, and it will probably be awhile before I actually run out because I've been using it every day since the end of October, but I'd rather be ready with a replacement than have to use a different pen. And I have wanted a mechanical pencil for awhile.

I roasted veggies and made rice for dinner, because that's my go-to thing. While I ate I watched the new Thor movie and I really liked it. It's up there with the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie in terms of being a fun, colorful comic book movie, which is often lacking in comic books movies, surprisingly, given the source material. There are a lot of good bits but my favorite is probably when Hulk is slamming Thor into the ground and Loki gets really excited, saying something along the lines of “now you know how it feels,” which is a great call back to one of my favorite bits in any Avengers movie, when Loki gets slammed by Hulk. The casting of Loki is so good because it's a character that you shouldn't like but Tom Hiddleston somehow makes him very likeable. Also, Jeff Goldblum nailed it.

From my occasional peeks outside it did not appear that we got the weather we were supposed to, and the library probably could have opened today. I also probably could have had Chipotle night with my Mom and sister, but there was still a change of freezing rain so we decided to try it this weekend. Although now we're supposed to get freezing drizzle early Saturday morning that will then turn into regular rain. If the weather interferes with my ability to go to the book sale I'm going to be perturbed.

It is now almost 12:30AM, and I am tired. I close tomorrow, which is annoying because I won't be able to go to the book sale tomorrow night, but it means I can sleep in a little bit. At this point that really just means I will potentially get a full night of sleep, but I'll take it.

February 21, 2018

This morning I woke up before my alarm so I played Subnautica for about an hour before running on the elliptical and getting ready. In that time I built my first Seamoth (a one-person submarine), and also had my first Seamoth destroyed by a scary sea creature. Luckily I wasn't killed, but it was close. Then, I managed to gather the resources for a second Seamoth, which came very close to being destroyed by another scary sea creature. The second time around it only did 60% damage, as opposed to 90%, and I was able to get away and repair it. Fool me once and all that. I'm going to be more careful now, and hopefully avoid avoidable accidents.

When I got to work I had two walkthroughs. When I wasn't doing that, I refilled my DVD and Mystery displays, and I also refilled the tax instruction books. And then it was time to deliver homebound books. Our first stop was a small, hole-in-the-wall bookstore. I don't know how profitable it is but it's the kind of place I would like to have when I retire (as long as I wasn't depending on the income). I could just hang out and read and maybe sell a book or two. After that it was business as usual, just driving around, talking, and delivering books.

When we got back I got all the bookmarks out of the books, and left the books with circulation. Then I returned some large print books and the van keys to the basement and talked with a couple people down there for a little bit. Not long after that it was time for dinner.

After dinner I was on desk for two hours (and more than that because yeah, night stuff with only two people working in our department). A decent amount of that time was spent coming up with a template for making physical buttons (with a button machine). I wanting to have a masking layer, so you could take a square picture, center it how you wanted, and then put it behind the masking layer, leaving you with a round image and a black outline to cut along. It involved a lot of math and converting inches to pixels and using an online photo editor to create the masking layer that I then dropped into Publisher, and it's not perfect, but I think it's passable. I did a test print and it looked good, but I didn't actually try making a button. I also found that the black and white printer doesn't print at the correct size (and inch in Publisher turned out to be significantly less when printed from that printer) but thankfully the color printer was pretty much spot-on.

I got a brief start on updating homebound stuff but then there was another situation with one of our front doors. I think it was the last time I worked that the elbow joint on the door broke. In that case we just locked the door and all was well. There was actually a repairman there today fixing it. But tonight the lock fell out of the door. What the hell. The custodian looked at it and couldn't get it back on securely but decided we could just set it back in place and lock the door. This was relayed to me over the phone and it sounded good to me. Later on in the night he came up and gave me the lock and I decided I would go down and take a look. It took me about five seconds to stick my finger in the hole left by the lock and discover and little lever. It didn't appear to do anything but when I locked the door from the inside, I was able to unlock it from the outside by pushing on the lever. So that wasn't good.

We couldn't get ahold of the head of the maintenance department, but that wasn't surprising because it was getting late and he's usually at the library by three or four in the morning. I tried calling my boss but she was picking up her son and didn't answer, so I called her house and her husband said he would track her down. She ended up coming in later but we had just solved the problem. We called the assistant director in the meantime and he stopped by to look at the problem. I ended up suggesting we just lock it and tie the two doors together. The assistant director tracked down a chain and some locks, and that ended up working pretty well. I didn't get any credit for coming up with the temporary fix the last time the door broke so we'll see if I get any this time. I'm just glad we got it sorted, and with about ten seconds to spare before the closing announcement went off.

On the drive home there was some freezing rain. It hasn't started snowing yet but it is supposed to snow throughout the night and during the day tomorrow, with the possibility of rain tomorrow night. I have to open tomorrow so I wouldn't mind a snow day, or at least a delayed opening. Snow sucks but snow on top of ice is kind of the worst. I won't be holding my breath though. Don't want to get my hopes up.

When I got home I ate some dry Cheerios and watched videos for a little while before starting this. And now I will be recording my audio journal so I can go to bed. Sleep sounds pretty good right now.

February 20, 2018

This morning I didn't wake up until eleven o'clock. It's been a little while since that has happened. But I was up way too late last night and I got a full eight hours of sleep to make up for it.

Most of my day was just playing video games. I broke down and bought Subnautica, but used a gift card so I don't feel bad about it, and I got completely sucked into it, which is what I expected would happen. There is a lot of inventory management involved in the game, which slows the pace down quite a bit, and it's just a very methodical game in general. I haven't started building my base yet but I'm starting to scout out possible locations.

I also played a bunch of Staxel. I was able to finish the second floor addition to my house and it turned out looking a lot better than I was expecting. I really like it. And, with a lot of eggplant farming, I was able to surpass 100,000 petals (which is the currency in the game). It was such a struggle early in the game trying to earn money, but I've finally figured out a decent method with the farming thing, and it can be incredibly tedious, but it lets me buy the things I need to build, so it works out.

For dinner I made another veggie sandwich but I also made some eggs, just to change things up. Both were really good. After dinner I ran on the elliptical and took a shower. Late in the day but I got it done. And it is now eleven o'clock but I'm going to play a little more Subnautica before bed. Hopefully a little. I don't work until noon tomorrow so I should be able to make up for another late night. But not too late.

February 19, 2018

Last night I got somewhere on the wrong side of six hours of sleep. It was not enough.

I got to work at eight o'clock, checked email, and talked to my coworkers until it was time to head over to the auditorium for the meeting. The first presentation of the day was about active shooter training, presented by someone from Homeland Security. Despite the subject matter, he made it pretty entertaining. It was also much less depressing than when I was working at the school and having to hide during lockdown training with a bunch of scared kids. It helps that I'm not a childrens librarian.

The director then talked about our goals and went into more detail about the upcoming remodeling project. And at the end of that, one of our volunteers stopped by to talk to us about his love of libraries. I've seen him around, and helped him a few times, but didn't know much about him other than the fact that he volunteered at the library. He ended up telling us his history, being a dentist in the military and living all over the world, and how important libraries were at each step along the way. He also told us that everywhere he goes he looks for the library, and he has a library card collection that is about 500 strong. That's pretty crazy considering he goes into every library to get the cards.

We ended up finishing half an hour early so we got an hour and a half for lunch. That meant I had time to go home. I was able to eat and play Staxel for a bit before having to go back. It would really be nice if I could add the two fifteen minute breaks I don't take to my lunch time. Then I could go home every day.

Before starting the afternoon sessions there was a brief dance party to wake everyone up. The new PR lady turned on the Just Dance video for a One Direction song and divided up the room so each section had one member of One Direction. A lot of people really got into it. A lot of people did not get into it. I just stood there, which probably looked extra subdued because I was standing next to my boss who was really getting into it.

The two sessions after lunch were both presented by the same guy, who was actually a presenter at last year's meeting. The first was on professionalism and the second was on team building. I nearly fell asleep a couple times but that was mostly because I was tired. But also a little bit because the guy has a very laid back way of talking. Thankfully he is also pretty funny so that kept me going.

My work day ended with taking care of all the emails that were in our department inbox, mostly purchase requests but also a few other things.

When I got home I ate dinner (another sandwich and Cheetos with chopsticks) and then watched videos until it was time for the HOA meeting across the street (actually at one of the nursing homes that we deliver homebound books to). Only eight other people showed up plus the manager, so not a great turnout, but it was my first meeting so I don't know how typical that is. I did learn some things, though.

My neighbor's house is owned by a guy who lives in a different town and his daughter and her friends live there (he was at the meeting tonight and seems like a pretty nice guy). He has been getting quotes on siding because the back of the house needs new siding, so we're going to go halfsies on it because my house is up for a new coat of paint this year and that can't happen until I get the back of the house re-sided. I can also take care of the yard grading and landscaping, if I want, without much grief from the HOA because they're pretty laid back about things that are super obnoxious. After the manager left we voted to keep him on as manager but it was mentioned that he is notoriously late on cashing checks (which I experienced firsthand) and he isn't great about keeping up with new homeowners (also experienced firsthand). But he used to live in the neighborhood and he is friendly with people so that works in his favor. Also, I was elected HOA secretary, because everyone else had already done the three different positions (president, vice president, and secretary) more than once over the years and didn't want to do them again. But we only have one meeting a year and my only responsibility is to take the minutes at that meeting, type them up, and send them to the manager. So not a lot of responsibility.

When I got home I played a little CoD: WW2 and while working on a contract for Gun Game got into a lobby with a dude who was almost exclusively meleeing. It was kind of annoying because in Gun Game, getting meleed sets you back to the previous level. In one game a few of us were set back eight times. I would have been more annoyed but I didn't get put back on a shotgun more than a couple times and the guy was funny about it in chat. He was finishing up the weekly order of playing 80 rounds of Gun Game and he was getting bored. The games would have gone by a lot quicker had he not been setting everyone back, but to each their own.

I spent the rest of the night completely sucked into Staxel. I didn't mean for that to happen but it was a class “just one more thing” situation. I made a lot of progress on my house expansion and I spent a lot of time watering crops. I like the money I can get from a big field, but it takes forever to water and it can be really difficult to see when certain plants are watered, and if they aren't watered than they don't grow as fast. They need to fix something there. I ended up going into the menu and switching into third-person because I can get a better angle and more easily see which plants aren't watered. But even that can be tricky if it is a tall crop. It would be really nice if there was a sprinkler.

And it is now 2:45AM. I'm off tomorrow, thankfully, so I'll be sleeping in. It is also nice being off because we got a lot of icy rain late this evening, so I don't have to worry about that.

February 18, 2018

Today was fairly uneventful. I woke up before my alarm so I played Staxel and watched videos before running on the elliptical, getting ready, eating lunch, and heading to work.

The usual opening stuff happened and then I spent the first part of my day updating my homebound spreadsheets with the books I am taking out this month. The rest of my day was pretty much spent playing with the tech page. I wanted to create a more interesting looking button, so I wasted some time on that but was lacking the needed software to create one. I eventually moved on to trying a couple other things with the layout. I think the idea will be to come up with at least a few different ideas and then getting the opinion of others. I feel like I'm close to what I want but not quite there yet.

Other than that stuff, I helped patrons with printing and copying, finding books, and showed off some of our online resources. But that was about it. As I said, an uneventful day.

When I got home I started my laundry and made another veggie sandwich. I'm out of roasted red pepper but I still have hummus, romaine lettuce, cucumbers, and sourdough bread, so I'll probably keep making them.

With the rest of my night I started watching a Sips playthrough of Subnautica. I've wanted the game for quite awhile now, and I'll probably end up buying it sooner rather than later, but until then, I'm enjoying watching other people play the game. Also, the new Neebs Gaming video came out today, so I watched that as well.

While I watched that stuff, I played Staxel. I continued farming and I also started remodeling my house. I moved out the entryway to give me more room inside, and I also got the briefest of starts on adding a second floor. I haven't decided where to put the stairs yet. And it's taking forever because I have to keep up with my crops at the same time. But the game is maintaining my interest, so that's cool.

Now I'm going to record my audio journal and get the last of my laundry out of the dryer so I can go to bed. We have a full day of staff development tomorrow, which means I have to be at work by eight o'clock, so that's going to suck, but it should be an interesting day.

February 17, 2018

Last night I got six hours of sleep, which didn't seem like enough, probably because it wasn't. I didn't run on the elliptical because when I got up my left knee was a bit achy and I didn't want to push it. I did get up and out of bed though, just so I can stay in the habit of that. It was far too easy to slip back into staying in bed in the morning, rather than getting up and exercising. With that extra time I watched videos until I got ready for work.

I did the usual weekend opening stuff but I had to count the drawer with the assistant because that's the new procedure. It's weird, and I don't think we fully accomplished the purpose of doing it together because after she double-checked my totals she left to do her usual opening stuff, leaving me alone with the money. I think that is what we're trying to avoid, even though there's a camera in the room watching us.

I was on desk for the first two hours and it took me awhile to do anything productive. I caught up on emails, answered phone calls, and read news articles. I also tweaked the Excel file for the printed schedule and one of the reports for making the schedule because now we are printing the weekend schedule on Friday night, instead of Saturday morning. So I had to change the formula for the automatic dates on the weekend schedule, and made a new report that will show us Sunday events (when we're printing it on Friday). Then I had a walkthrough and continued working on my homebound lists.

I had lunch up in the cubicle because that's what I do on Saturday. I read a little bit and watched a couple Neebs Gaming videos. Not a bad way to spend a lunch hour.

After lunch I was on desk for another two hours. I helped the occasional patron but I mostly just worked on my homebound lists. I managed to finish them so when I was off desk I was able to go out and pull all of the books. Then I checked them out, made the bookmarks, put the bookmarks in the books, and got them bagged up. I didn't think I'd be able to get that far today, so that was a nice surprise. All I need to do tomorrow is update all of my spreadsheets and I'll be good to go.

When I got home I made another veggie sandwich. I toasted the bread this time and that was a bit of a mistake because it kind of tore up the roof of my mouth. But it tasted good, and that is what's important.

While I ate dinner I watched videos. Then I played a little CoD: WW2 long enough to a bunch of crates from daily orders and contracts, and then I tried out ABZU for the first time. It is a very chill game. I'm not exactly sure what the point is, I haven't really looked into the game beyond the visuals, but it was fun to swim around.

Now it is late once again, so I'm going to wrap this up, record my audio journal, and go to bed. I have Staxel going in the background so the days can pass, and that has been distracting, but now I have finished this, before one o'clock, and I'm going to count that as a win.

February 16, 2018

I fear tomorrow might be a little rough because it is eleven o'clock right now and I am just starting to write this.

This morning I slept in a little bit and then I spent the rest of the morning reading, watching videos, and clicking around the internet.

After lunch I went to my Mom's house to let the dogs out. That took awhile so I read while I waited. And then I went and got gas on my way to the grocery store. When I got home I played a little CoD: WW2 and I was able to prestige once again. I like the sixth prestige emblem better than the fifth prestige emblem. There are ten prestiges in the game, and then you just keep the last emblem but your level number just keeps going past the usual cap of 55. I've never come anywhere close to max prestige but if I keep up with the game I might actually make it this time.

For dinner I made a fancy sandwich. It included: sourdough bread, roasted red bell pepper, artichoke hummus, romaine lettuce, cucumbers, and a balsamic Dijon dressing. It was really good. I doubt I'm the first person to come up with the idea but I'm still pretty proud of it. I think next time, which might be tomorrow, I'm going to toast the bread a little bit.

While the pepper roasted I re-wrote my Match profile. I paid to have a “professional” write it, which was just a freelance writer, and I wasn't too impressed with it. I used a couple bits from it, but other than that I pretty much ignored it and wrote my own. I think it turned out pretty well, but we'll see how it goes.

Along with my sandwich, I also had Cheetos, which I ate with chopsticks. That is a life hack I saw on the internet years ago and I have always been curious. And, it actually works. It makes me want to eat more things with chopsticks, a goal I could easily accomplish because I'm frequently eating rice and vegetables. I'm usually not using chopstick-friendly rice, but I could definitely handle the vegetables.

With the rest of my night I watched videos and played Staxel. I'm in a farming mood, rather than a cooking mood, so I've been focused on expanding my crops. I have also added several apiaries because it is now Spring and I have found more queen bees. The game is more fun when played like an idle clicker. Leave it running while doing other things so the days go by and things grow and I'm not just watching paint dry.

And now it is an hour later and I need to go to bed because I have to work in the morning. Yeah, it's going to be a long day.

February 15, 2018

Last night I got eight and a half hours of sleep, woke up before my alarm, and had awhile to watch videos and do internet things before I ran on the elliptical, got ready, ate lunch, and then headed to work.

I got to work at 1:30PM and I was off desk for two and a half hours. During that time I read news articles and started working on my homebound lists. I also emailed one of my homebound patrons because she sends me a list of books every week but it includes new books and DVDs, which I can't bring, so I wanted to clarify that. And she was understanding and offered some more suggestions.

I had a walkthrough at four o'clock, during which I refilled my DVD display, and then I talked to my boss and coworkers about the upcoming remodeling. Plans have changed again and now we're going to get our workroom first because they have decided to push back the teen space until after summer. That means we can slow down with the weeding a bit, but we have to put more thought into what we want our workroom to look like and what we're going to do with all the stuff that is currently at our desk.

There was a leak up on the third floor and we had to shut off the water on that side of the building until someone could come out and look at it. One of the other librarians printed out signs for the bathrooms and I went and put them on the bathroom doors. I think I had been back at the desk for maybe five minutes when we got the all clear, because the repair guys came really quick and it ended up not really being much of an issue. The HR person brought over the signs that were on the second floor bathrooms and by the time I got down to the first floor the signs had already been taken off those bathrooms as well. I think it took me longer to put the sticky tack on the signs than it did for them to get the issue taken care of.

I had my dinner break at five o'clock, which is better than the usual four o'clock dinner break, and way better than the less frequent three o'clock dinner break.

When I got back from dinner I was on desk for three hours, but the first thing I had to do was go down to the basement to shut off the toilet down there, because it had apparently been running for an hour. The librarian on desk got a call about it, tried to contact the maintenance guy but couldn't get ahold of him, and then got distracted and forgot about it. So I grabbed our screwdriver and went down there. It was a bit of a struggle to get the cover off the pipe, but I managed it. I then turned the thing the wrong way because the water started coming out a lot faster, so then I turned it the correct way. Once it stopped I gave it a second and turned it back on, flushed it a couple times to make sure all was well, and called it good.

Most of my on-desk time was spent working on my homebound list and I made decent progress. I should be able to easily finish that up on Saturday and maybe even start pulling books. Preferably I will be able to get everything done this weekend because the library is closed on Monday, but we'll be there all day for a staff development meeting, and I'm off Tuesday for the weekend.

I talked to my Mom and sister a little bit because they were there for the craft night. My Mom also signed up for a library card, because it has been awhile since she's had one. I also talked to one of my former scoutmasters who was there for a different event, and learned that the father of one of the kids who was a scout with me had passed away. That is always unfortunate to hear about. He was always a nice guy.

Near the end of the night I saw that the new Chuck Palahniuk book finally made it to my Kindle. It's a pre-release copy and I have been trying for at least a few days to get it sent to my Kindle, but it didn't appear to be working. Until tonight. Hopefully now I will be able to read it before I lose access to it.

When I got home I played a little CoD: WW2 and then watched videos for awhile. I have now been trying to write this for far too long. I would hate to know how much time I have spent writing about my life over the years. Thousands of hours.

Tomorrow I need to buy groceries and stop by my Mom's house to let the dogs out. On my days off I prefer not to leave the house but that doesn't always work out.

February 14, 2018

This morning I left a little late for work, but that's normal. And then I hit nearly every single red light on the way to work. It was almost comical.

When I got to work I ran around a little bit getting everything collected for the outreach event today. I got the wagon with all the stuff to put on the table, picked up the van key, got the credit card for the parking garage, and printed more adulting flyers. And then we left so we could be set up at the university library by ten o'clock.

I dropped the two circulation people off close to the library and then went and parked in the parking garage. By the time I got back across campus to the library everything had been set up so then we just waited for the horde. And it never really came. Our shift was done at one o'clock and we had only signed up fourteen people. The second group was there until three o'clock and they only signed up thirteen people. Last semester we got around sixty people, so this time around wasn't nearly as impressive, but it could have been worse.

When we got back to the library I returned the van keys and then went to lunch. After lunch I had a walkthrough and ended up talking to the teen librarian for about forty-five minutes. As per usual, it was mostly library-related. I left after a barbershop quartet walked in to sing to a couple kids.

I was on desk for two hours after that. I caught up on news articles, filled out my timesheet, and then spent the rest of the time working on a draft of the new tech page design. I got the main part done and got a start on playing with how to show the upcoming classes.

After work I picked up Chipotle and headed to my Mom's house for dinner. My Mom and my sister both got the flowers I had delivered earlier in the day, and both really liked them. I went with the a different florist this year and I think they did a really good job. After dinner we watched videos and my Mom gave my sister and me stuff for Valentine's Day. This stuff included a green cast iron pot, so that's pretty cool. Now I can make cast iron pot things. Also, my sister made me pitas with artichoke hummus. I ate some with dinner and I ate more when I got home because it's really good.

I got home around 9:30PM, caught up on internet things, watched some videos and livestreams, and now I'm writing this. It's midnight and I'm tired so I'm going to record my audio journal and go to bed. I ended up going with the white noise on my sound machine last night but I muffled it quite a bit to lower the pitch of it, and that didn't seem too bad. Tomorrow I don't go in until 1:30PM, so I'm looking forward to sleeping in.

February 13, 2018

Today was an interesting day just because of my schedule.

I woke up before my alarm and watched part of an episode of 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown before running on the elliptical and getting ready. I was able to finish the episode before leaving for work.

I had two walkthroughs when I got to work. On my second one I picked up a box in the mailroom that had instruction books for the 1040EZ. Now we just need all the other stuff to show up. I thought there would be more today but apparently not.

I was off desk for two hours after that and spent a decent amount of that time updating the webpage for the tech class today. It came down to the wire to get it done before the class started but I managed it. And then I read a few articles.

I went to dinner at 3:00PM. Yeah, three o'clock. That's way too early for dinner. I wasn't hungry and there was no way it was going to hold me until the end of the day. But that's the only way the schedule could work today.

When I got back we had our department meeting (hence the early dinner). We started with a tornado drill building walkthrough, going through the whole process. Then we did our regular meeting thing, talking about policies and catching up on various things.

I was on desk briefly after the meeting, just long enough to pass along a bunch of purchase requests. Then I helped the teen librarian set up for the class tonight. And then I had a walkthrough, during which I pulled a bunch of books to add to my Mystery display because all of my backup books had been checked out. I also got briefly sidetracked messing with one of our front doors because the elbow joint broke. We could fix it so we just locked it. Luckily people were still able to access the door next to it using the handicap button (because that door doesn't have a handle on the outside).

We had six people come for the class, and it would have been nice if there were more, but I think they got a lot out of class. A lot of information was covered and the patrons asked a lot of questions. At the end we gave away the book we bought, and the guy presenting the class also gave away a giant book on basic home repair, so that was pretty cool.

When the class was over I got everything put away, checked my email really quick, and then went downstairs to close with the other librarian (who was there for a different program) while the assistant closed upstairs.

On my way home I stopped at my Mom's house to pick up my Amazon package, because I forgot to change the delivery address to my house. The package contained my sound machine and new Bluetooth speaker. I briefly checked out the sound machine and I'm not sure how I feel about it but we'll see. I think the white noise setting is too high-pitched, which I feared it would be, so I'm probably going to try the rain setting tonight and see how that goes.

When I got home I played a couple quick matches in CoD: WW2. For daily orders I needed to win a game of Hardpoint and a game of Domination. And as luck would have it, I quickly got into both games and was able to win both. Then I caught up on my written notes for the day before starting to write this.

And now I have a headache, so I am going to hopefully quickly record my audio journal and go to bed. Tomorrow will also be weird because I'm spending the morning at an outreach event. Who knows about the afternoon.

February 12, 2018

Same old morning stuff. When I got to work I was off desk for two hours so I did a bit of running around. I returned a couple books, took a couple books upstairs to be re-cataloged, refilled my DVD display, and refilled the large print Romance display even though it isn't mine this month because it was running super low. And then I weeded until I was on desk.

I was on desk for two hours and it was pretty quiet. I withdrew the books I pulled, caught up on emails and the news, answered phone calls, and talked to my coworkers.

When I got back from lunch I had an hour to read articles, send emails, and talk to my coworkers. Then I had a walkthrough followed by a meeting with the new PR lady. The point was to go over the design for the main tech page. I'm going to try a few different things and send her screenshots to get her opinion. We also talked briefly about better ways to promote my video game discussions (and the tech workshops in general).

I then weeded for the rest of the day. I made it about three-quarters of the way through the second row of books, which is around 170 pages into my 423 page list. I didn't pay attention last week but today I weeded fifty books. Not bad. It's nowhere close to what some of the other librarians will weed, but it's not bad.

When I got home I ate dinner and continued watching the eight-hour Neebs Gaming Subnautica video. Then I played a little Staxel before switching over to a little CoD: WW2. I finished the festival in Staxel, made a decent return on my cabbage, decorated the path going through my farm with lanterns, and did some other random things. CoD: WW2 wasn't too exciting but I did make it to level fifty-three.

And now it is midnight and I'm going to record my audio journal and go to bed. I close tomorrow so I'll get to sleep in a little bit. Hopefully.

February 11, 2018

This weekend has not been a good one for sleep. I woke up in the middle of the night because my Bluetooth speaker had stopped working. I turned it back on, and it seemed to be doing alright, but then early in the morning the volume on it spiked and it was terrifying. I had it sitting on my ironing board near the foot of my bed, so I jumped up to turn it off, and in the process of doing that I got a massive cramp in my left calf. I dealt with the residual pain from that for most of the day, so that was fun.

All that happened around eight o'clock and I decided to just get up, mostly because now it was completely quiet in my room. I walked around a little bit, trying to stretch my calf muscle out, and realized I was still too tired to do anything productive, so I went out to the living room, turned on Spotify, and took a two hour nap on my couch. Such a comfortable couch.

And then the only productive thing I did with my day was my laundry. I had so many ideas for things to do, and then I used my horrible night of sleep as an excuse to just sit around all day. I played a little bit of a few new-to-me video games that I have been meaning to try for awhile. Tiltagon is like a marble game, where you guide a ball along a path and try not to fall off the edge. Pumped BMX+ involves riding a bike across the screen and doing tricks. And Eternal Winter is a minimalist where you play a scientist on an arctic expedition and explore things. All of them fun but I didn't play them for too long.

I also played Staxel again, for the first time since last weekend, maybe. I decided to get into cooking so that kept me busy for a little while. Then the season switched to Winter and there is an event for several days where you can catch fish and turn them in for rewards, so I spent awhile farming fish. I got all of the special items using the golden fish and I'm on the last day of the event now trying to get all of the regular fish I can so I can exchange them for lanterns. I'm still hurting for money, so after the event I'll be back to waiting for crops to grow, but we'll see if I can keep up with the cooking thing.

I spent five hours over the course of the day watching an eight-hour video of all of the Neebs Gaming Subnautica series videos up to this point. The put all twenty-two videos into one in anticipation of the new series starting soon. They played using the pre-release version of the game and basically made it through everything that was in the game. Now that the game has been fully released they are going to continue playing with the new content. It is a single-player game where you crash land onto a watery planet and you have to survive. Not all that entertaining to watch on its own, but the Neebs guys made it really entertaining by having one guy be the stranded person and the other guys act like they are back at HQ and are helping him through the game. It adds a really interesting angle to the game and I'm obviously into it because I watched all the videos back when they came out and now I'm five hours into a video watching them all again.

I played a little more CoD: WW2 tonight and my goal was to make it to level fifty-two, which I did, so the night was a success. Had I played that instead of the other games today I would have easily made it to the next prestige, but that will have to wait for another day.

And now it is eleven o'clock and I'm tired, so I'm going to record my audio journal and go to bed. Tonight I will be sleeping with my bathroom fan on, so there is at least some background noise going on. Today I ordered a new Bluetooth speaker (not the same brand as my current one), but I also ordered a noise machine, so I can use that at night. I figure it makes sense to use something that was actually made for the purpose of helping people sleep, as opposed to using a fan or a Bluetooth speaker playing a recording of a fan. Fingers crossed the sounds are decent. But I'll find that out on Tuesday.

February 10, 2018

Last night I woke up up around four o'clock because my stomach hurt, and I was up for about an hour. It's always a little troubling because in the past that has been a symptom of a kidney stone. I haven't had one in awhile but they are always present in my mind. It didn't end up being a kidney stone, thankfully, and I think it was probably related to my egg sandwich from Sonic being cooked on a meat grill.

I had set my alarm clock for nine o'clock, and even though I ended up getting less than six hours of sleep by that time, I got up anyway. I then spent my morning watching videos and answering questions for my new Match dating profile. I'm paying them to write it because I think mine could be better and I very much dislike talking about myself. I'm not great at self-promotion. So they sent me a bunch of questions and I guess my answers are going to be turned into a coherent profile. I'm intrigued and looking forward to seeing how it turns out. I think I would be pretty good at that job, because I can easily BS about other people. Especially if they have it set up like a mad-lib, paint-by-numbers kind of thing.

After lunch I played CoD: WW2 and nothing really jumps out at me so I would say it was a fairly average session. I almost took a nap but really just laid on my couch for a little while before getting around to running on the elliptical and taking a shower during the seven o'clock hour. I made dinner after that, and along with the roasted vegetables I made jasmine rice instead of brown rice. I had almost forgotten that rice can taste good. I usually use brown rice because I've been told it's healthier, but I find it boring, even when I add stuff to it to make it taste better. The jasmine rice was a nice change.

I ate dinner around nine o'clock and then played more CoD: WW2. I ended with several games of Demolition so I could finish an order and for all but the last game I had a kid on my team that was pretty toxic. He spent every match calling out individuals on the team, including myself (because I acknowledged him). He was a bit of try-hard but not to the point of ever actually trying to plant or defuse a bomb. I just kept giving him crap the whole time and it was kind of funny. At least for me.

Now it is one o'clock in the morning so I'm going to record my audio journal and go to bed. Tomorrow I may do some things. We'll see.

February 9, 2018

Today as incredibly uneventful. I woke up, ran on the elliptical, got ready, and went to work. And my day was almost entirely filled with weeding. I was off desk for the first two hours so I headed out to the stacks with the first half of my list. I made it through the first three sections, which was a pretty decent start. I'm not looking inside every book but I am checking every book against my list, regardless of whether or not I have marked them for weeding, just to make sure the books are there and that the call numbers are right.

I was on desk for two hours after that and I mostly messed with my weeding. I withdrew all the books I had pulled but not before looking through several of them because I'm easily distracted by interesting books. There were two books of random facts, and I learned that clocks run “clockwise” because they were invented in the northern hemisphere, where sundials go right to left, not left to right. Or at least that's one theory. There was also a book on alien abduction, written by a psychologist, that offered techniques for figuring out if you had been involved in a close encounter. Yet another example that gives me confidence that even I can write a book and get published some day.

After my lunch break I had a walkthrough and then I headed back out to the stacks. I was out there for about three hours (because I was off desk for the rest of the day) and I made it through one-hundred pages, which got me through an entire row of shelves. I stopped at 5:30PM so I would have time to withdraw all the books, which I had to do on the computer down in circulation because there was too much happening at the desk. I also had just enough time to refill my DVD display. So yeah, five hours of weeding. That was basically my day.

On my way home I picked up Jimmy John's and Sonic for dinner, similar to what I did however long ago that was. I don't want it to become a habit but it gave me something to look forward after this long week.

I watched videos while I ate and then played CoD: WW2 for awhile. There seemed to be some lag issues throughout the night but overall I had a pretty good night. I found my groove in Domination and had a couple games where my team won and I finished in first place. I still think I will get my ass handed to me more often than not if the teams aren't balanced (or aren't weighted in my favor) but it was fun tonight. I also had some good games of War. In one of them I joined during the second half and the other team was obviously way better. It was Operation Breakout and we didn't get anywhere close to capturing the first objective until the last minute when they moved back to the next objective. There were just wanting to boost their XP but I was cool with it because I like playing the game and it can be annoying when you just want to play but then it's over after the first objective. I was also trying to finish a contract and a daily order, which I was able to do during the next objective. By the end of it we lost, but I ended up on the top of the leaderboard, even above the guys on the other team who were really good, probably because I was playing the objective, building things, destroying things, planting bombs, and that adds a decent amount of points. Anyway, the point is I had fun, which is always the goal.

And now it is almost two o'clock in the morning because I was watching videos while writing this. I'll never learn.

February 8, 2018

Last night I got eight hours of sleep and woke up before my alarm. I got up earlier than I did yesterday so I had time to watch some videos and click around the internet for awhile before running on the elliptical and getting ready.

Today was another day at work where I felt like I didn't really accomplish much. I had two walkthroughs when I first arrived and I ran into my friend's sister and her baby. I run into my friend's dad on a regular basis but this was the first time I've run into his sister. I held the baby several months ago when he was maybe a month or two old. He is huge now. She said he's in the 96th percentile for height. Or length? I don't know at what age it goes from length to height. Either way, he's getting big.

After the walkthroughs I was on desk for two hours and I mostly just read news articles and library-related articles. I also helped a few patrons with printing and email stuff, and answered a lot of phone calls. Then I was off desk for an hour and looked up articles and videos for Getting Over It and game theory.

When I got back from dinner I played Getting Over It for awhile so I could get a feel for the game again. I managed to get the highest I've ever been, but I don't know that's saying much because it's only the third time I've played. And I'm awful.

I had two walkthroughs and then I set up for my video game discussion. And then I played for half an hour before calling it quits because no one showed up. Kind of disappointing, although also a bit fitting, playing a game about frustration while becoming frustrated about real life. I really want the video game discussions to be a thing but they don't happen regularly enough and I don't think they are promoted well enough. I think this program would appeal to the demographic we're going for but I don't think the demographic we're going for knows this program exists. There is one more discussion scheduled for this semester and it may be the last one because if I can't get anyone to show up I'll have a hard time justifying future discussions.

The rest of the evening was uneventful. I handled a few emails, read a bit of an unreleased book, and that was it. When I got home I ate some Oreos to make up for my disappointment, and then ordered flowers for Valentine's Day for my Mom and sister. And now it is getting late so I'm going to record my audio journal and go to bed. I'm apparently off desk for five hours tomorrow. I might start pulling my weeded books because I don't really have anything else I want to do. Although I could start on my homebound lists. We'll see.
