This morning I helped out with kindergarten literacy centers and I
was repeatedly mocked by a five year old in one of the classes. He
was in a bit of a foul mood this morning. It is really strange
hearing an obstinate five year old try to mimic my deep monotone.
Before going down to the kindergarten rooms I briefly helped out in
second grade, getting one of the reading groups started. They were
using the magnifying worksheets I made and after seeing the
photocopied version, and the struggle some of the kids were having
trying to decipher the words, I think I made the words too small. So
when I had time today I went back and bumped the font up to size four
from size three. That seemed quiet a bit better. Hopefully.
I was looking through the stuff the professor posted for the
face-to-face meeting this weekend and noticed on the agenda that he
didn't have my group on the presentation list. I emailed him, saying
I didn't want to be the kid asking for homework, and pointed out that
my partner and I weren't on the list. I haven't heard back from him
yet. So hopefully that gets fixed. Not that I'm feeling overly
confident about our project or the presentation but I can't really
afford to miss out on those points.
In terms of the project. I didn't really make any progress on that
front today. Mostly. I emailed my partner with a suggestion about
the PowerPoint and asked about the status of her second article. She
got back to me with the article so that is a plus. I haven't
actually looked at it yet but hopefully it is good. Tomorrow I'll
mess around with the columns and stuff in the newspaper and get that
sorted. That will give me a better sense of what other things I need
to add in to fill everything out and make it look good.
I still have a ridiculous amount of reading to do before this
weekend. My ethics book of case studies (but I plan on ignoring the
case studies and only reading the first several pagers of each
chapter before the case studies), a chapter in the other book for the
class, all of the librarian interviews my classmates submitted, and
probably some other stuff I'm forgetting. For my other class I need
to read a chapter out of the book and another chapter from a PDF and
watch the video lecture so I can write a discussion post by Sunday.
My eyes are going to be sick of seeing words by the end of the week.
And I still need to read all the articles I found for that second
group project and summarize them for my group members. Yikes. Who
would have thought there would be so much reading involved in earning
a master's degree in Library Science?
Tonight I read. Then took a break to come write this. And I will
shortly be returning to go read more. Probably until at least
midnight. It would be nice if I could finish the ethics books
tonight but I'm fairly certain that is wishful thinking. I need to
learn how to read faster. Reading super slow isn't working out for
me.
