October 14, 2014

Today was boring. I cut a lot of paper. I am now over halfway done with the card cutting and there is a chance I can finish this week. And then move onto punching holes. And then be done with the project and never accept another cutting and hole punching project on this scale again.

When I got to work this morning one of the rows of computers wouldn't turn on (due to a blown fuse) and the thermostat wouldn't turn on so it was a bit hot. I got both fixed not too long after school started. It would have been a rough day had the thermostat not been fixed.

I helped out with kindergarten literacy centers this morning. One of the classes had a substitute and it was his first substitute job. He looked like he was fresh off the college boat. And had no experience working with young kids. He talked to them like they were much older and it seemed like most of the time the kids were just working on autopilot because a lot of what he said was going over their heads. But the class survived the day.

The listening center book this week is about bears and in the second class all the kids wanted to draw Winnie the Pooh instead of drawing the family of bears in the book. They started talking about their favorite Winnie the Pooh movies and the kid next to me mentioned that his favorite was one where they were trying to catch a wild animal so they all dug a big hole but ended up falling into it themselves. I told him I had never seen it and he replied “Oh, it's wonderful. It's my favorite.” This is the same kid who told me last week that I should work on being a kid so I could earn a pizza party.

After school I stopped by the old house to pick up all the Encyclopedias and other books I dropped off there last night so they weren't sitting in my car overnight. After dinner I unloaded them and took them downstairs. I'm tired of carrying things. During that process, Tanner got in my car and sat in the passenger seat, looking like he was ready for a ride. A couple trips later, Beau had joined the fun by climbing into the backseat. Now I have dog hair and dog prints in my car.

It is now a little after nine o'clock but I'm ready for bed. My nights seem to just fly by now. It seems like I am barely off work and it is already time for bed. There aren't enough hours in the day.
