October 11, 2014

I slept in today, and then spent my morning working on my grandma's photos. I finished cutting out individual pictures and then put them onto pages in Publisher, adding a number to each one. It came out to thirteen pages and I wanted to save the whole thing as a PDF document but I guess it was too big because it wouldn't save, even on minimum settings. So I decided to go back and save each page as an individual PDF.

Later in the afternoon when I was over at the old house, I emailed all the pages to my grandma, explained my vision for the project, and asked if she wanted to go through the pictures I sent and list any details she knew about them.

Shortly after that I headed over to my grandma's house, meeting the rest of the family over there. My dad had a list of the last few things my grandma had asked about so we got those packed up and made one final pass over things. I ended up finding a box, that I had completely missed on every other trip, that was filled with a lot of the old wooden painted art that her and my grandpa had made. It was all hanging up at their old house and uncovering each piece was like an instant trip back to my childhood. I am so glad I found it because that would have been an incredible loss. I also found a painted sled, her old crochet hooks, and several other things. I even found a box of Christmas stuff out in the garage that was filled with old homemade ornaments that I somehow completely missed. It is strange how much I seemed to miss on each trip. My main goal was to get all the things she and my grandpa had made and every time I went over there I managed to find more stuff. At this point, we hopefully got it all.

After packing stuff up we headed over to my dad's house to help unpack everything. My sister and I went downstairs with my brother and his girlfriend to look at his fish tank for awhile before heading back up because I planned on going to eat dinner. I ended up loading up my car with all the photo albums and all the stuff from the cedar chest in my grandma's room because it will be my job to scan it all. It is going to take a really long time. There are eleven or twelve large photo albums, not counting the few really really old ones I already had, plus five or six boxes of stuff from the cedar chest. Not everything in those boxes is stuff to scan but there are a lot of old pictures and documents that will need to be scanned. At the moment with work and school it all seems a bit overwhelming. I think at some point I will need to at least teach my sister how to scan stuff in so she can work on it too.

Tonight I watched SNL for the first time in a long time because Bill Hader was the host and he is one of my favorite cast members from the last several years. It was a good episode. But not I need to go home and go to bed because I'm tired. I worked a little bit on school stuff today but I'll have to put in more time tomorrow.
