I actually kind of worked on school stuff today. I redesigned my
newspaper layout and that is looking pretty good. I also started
reading stuff from a couple different books that will help me write
better articles for the newspaper. I've never actually written a news
article before so that will be interesting. I've obviously read a
bunch but never really paid much attention to the formatting. I will
need to look up some examples.
My grandma came into town today with my aunt and uncle. I met them
and my sister over at my grandma's house for about an hour before I
had to leave briefly to get a haircut. When I got back my mom was
there and after awhile my dad showed up, so my mom left shortly
after. One of my grandma's oldest friends and former neighbor also
stopped by for a little while. We all sat around and talked for
awhile, I was probably there another two hours. It was good to see my
grandma again.
When I left there I went home and had some dinner and watched an
episode of Gotham. I think
it was the second episode. I haven't seen the first but the
commercials for the show looked intriguing. And the episode I
watched tonight was pretty good. I'm not sure what to think about
Jada Pinkett Smith yet because her accent is strange and her storyline in
this episode was super strange. There is a good chance I'll never
see another episode on TV but at some point I would like to see the
show again.
After the episode I went back over
to my grandma's house to meet my sister. The auctioneer is coming
tomorrow morning to make the final list for the sale so tonight was
our last chance to get stuff. We wanted to make sure we took
everything we could think of. Every time we go over we end up
finding something else. My sister found a marriage certificate the
other day in one of the books so tonight I flipped through every book
to make sure there weren't any other surprises. I ended up finding a
big picture of my grandpa and a newspaper of the day President
Kennedy was shot (which was in one of the World Books). I also took
all of the Encyclopedias plus the year ones for when my sister, my
brother, and myself were born. The main thing I wanted tonight was
the kitchen table chair with arms on it (it was the only one with
arms) because that is the one my grandpa always sat in and the arms
are worn at the end where he used to put his hands.
We made one final pass around the
house several times. It all just feels so final and it is incredibly
sad. The next time my grandma comes to town she will be staying in a
hotel. Which is weird. My sister also mentioned that is also kind
of liking saying a final goodbye to grandpa as well, which is true
and equally depressing. I can't even really express it in words. I
want to say that with all of our passes we got everything of meaning
out of the house that we had room for (which unfortunately left both
of the dressers) and we will always be able to look at and use that
stuff but in the end that is just stuff. Really important stuff, but
I'd rather have my grandma still living up here and not down with my
aunt and uncle. My sister and I ended up being over there for nearly
four hours, until almost midnight, and we both feel like we probably
still missed something, which combined with all the sad feelings,
pretty much sucks. We're both going to try and just not think about
it anymore.
And now it is creeping up on one
o'clock in the morning and I have to get up for work in the morning.
That is going to make for a long day. I'm already looking forward to
a nap.
