Today involved a lot of cutting. And I haven't even made it halfway
through the project. I did some quick calculations and I will have
to make 2,520 cuts throughout the entire card cutting process. And
then I'll have to punch holes in all the cards. I'm retiring from
making Dolch word cards after this project.
I had time to sort through the photos I scanned and figured out where
I got my stacks messed up and started scanning photos I had already
scanned. Then I sorted through the actual photos to find the ones I
hadn't scanned yet and got those scanned. Now I need to finish
cutting them into individual pictures, put them into a document,
number them, and send them off to my grandma. And then continue the
process for hundreds of more photographs.
The second graders were a bit much this morning during reading
groups. They just couldn't keep the noise down. And most of my
group couldn't seem to handle answering simple questions after
reading a story. They would struggle forever and couldn't take the
hint after I gave them the answer multiple times. I would hint at it
over and over again, and then blatantly give them the answer several
times before they would finally write something down, that was only
vaguely correct. And then immediately upon finishing their sentence
they would ask for help on the next question without even reading the
question. It was rough. At one point, after rotating for the last
time, the kids were so loud that the teacher stopped everyone and
told them to go back to where they were and try again. Several kids
were talking through this instruction so the teacher had to call them
out individually. She was on the verge of becoming mad, something
which I didn't think was possible.
I was across the hall cutting stuff when a sixth grader came over
from the lab and asked me to help them connect an iPad to the
projector so they could show a video. We got it working the other
day but I tried every combination for all the cords and nothing
worked. This was for the math enrichment teacher, who keeps one
group up in the classroom and sends another group down to the lab
with one of the SPED teachers. Today the SPED teacher had her sub
come down to the lab instead of her and the kids were all over the
place and really loud so that didn't help things. After school the
math enrichment teacher asked me about it and she got out her iPad so
I could show her how it should have worked, and when I plugged it in,
it worked. It didn't make any sense because I had tried that exact
same combination at least a few times earlier in the afternoon. But
whatever. Fingers crossed it will work next time.
I made black bean burgers for dinner. They were good, with a nice
outer layer but the inside was basically just well-seasoned mashed
beans. So still good, but not very burger-like. I think maybe I
needed more breadcrumbs maybe. I don't know. I'm not much of a
cook.
Tonight I tried finding articles for my group project but that didn't
go anywhere. We don't have a specific question narrowed down and
that either hurts us or helps us. I haven't decided yet. We want to
do something with how technology has effected how kids in elementary
school conduct research. I have found several non-scholarly articles
about the topic but haven't figured out the right keyboards to find
scholarly articles in the databases. It is kind of frustrating.
Despite that frustration, a lot of schoolwork needs to get done this
weekend. A lot.
