September 9, 2013

We had the first MAP test this morning and it went pretty smoothly. Minus the break in the middle of it for the tornado drill. That was pretty inconvenient. The test is a little different this year and it seems like there is a lot more reading on the reading test. Go figure. A lot of the kids were taking the whole time, more than last year, and I think they were confused by the long reading passages which had multiple questions. But they only showed one question at a time and it seemed like some of the kids didn't realize it was the same passage and they were reading it more than once. That would definitely add some extra time to the test.

I didn't have lunch duty today because of testing. I could have gone after the first test but I would have had to leave early to set up for the second test and then wouldn't have been able to actually eat lunch until after two o'clock. So instead I opted to eat lunch after the first test. I still could have made it to a little bit of lunch duty before setting up for the next test but it would have been kind of pointless. And then the teacher for the second test forgot about the test so they showed up fifteen minutes late. That would have given me enough time to help out in the lunchroom but I was unable to foresee the future.

The second test also went well, and it wasn't interrupted by a tornado drill. The teacher forgot to add one of her kid's to the seating chart so she logged him in and a little while later a para came in and noticed that he was taking the Reading test, not the Math test. So we got that switched and the teacher thanked the para because she said she probably would have ripped the kid a new one for taking the wrong test and not saying anything. And she would have. It was funny when the teacher went to fix it because the kid said he thought something was wrong because there seemed to be a lot of vocabulary. And no math.

The only afternoon class I had canceled because the student teacher was being observed while she taught a lesson. So I spent the rest of my afternoon inputting the test scores I had into my spreadsheet. And then I messed around a lot with the format of my spreadsheet. I'm still figuring out Excel 2010 and I'm trying to make the spreadsheet look a little better. At the moment I am annoyed that I am setting my spreadsheet to fit the page when I print, with tiny margins, but it isn't filling the entire page. I might have to give up on that.

Tonight I watched some YouTube videos and then started to play The Walking Dead video game. I am really liking it so far. The visual style is cool and the voice acting is not terrible. Most of it anyway. My only problem with the game is that it gives me too many choices. I don't know how much these choices affect the ending, or how many different outcomes there really are, but I already feel like I'm missing out and I haven't gotten to a point where my choices have had a major impact. It would be cool if after beating the game you could go back and see what would have happened if you made different choices, without having to play through the whole game again. Because I know that won't happen.

Tomorrow I have more testing to look forward to. And some sort of safety drill that will be interfering with at least one of those tests. Gotta love MAP testing combined with safety week. And Picture Day on Wednesday. I feel like the people in charge of scheduling things forgot we have an entire school year to spread all this crap out. We didn't need to do it all in the same week. But life goes on. As long as I get to bed by ten o'clock. So I'm going to go do that.
