It was such a non-event that I forgot to mention I had another kidney
stone yesterday. If I hadn't been paying attention I wouldn't even
have known I had it. It is the second one I've had without any overt
signs before coming out and it is by far the smallest one I've had.
Maybe an eighth or a tenth of the size of my biggest one. I would
totally be cool with kidney stones if they were all like that.
Today there were three MAP tests and I was reminded of how exhausting
it can be to stand there and then write down scores as kids finish.
I would much prefer taking the test and then getting to read a book
or color or put my head down on the desk. Sometimes it sucks being
an adult.
During the last test of the day we had a fire drill. This happened
to be the same class that was interrupted my the tornado drill
earlier in the week. They made the fire drill more authentic today
by putting smoke around the building to force classes to use
alternate exits. Good idea in theory but they put it downstairs by
the computer lab, nowhere near an outside door, so it just kind of
hung there. Smelling like smoke. And the alarm started going off
again right as we got inside and I would hope that was the alarm
reacting to all the smoke still hanging around the building.
The best part of testing was a first grader asking me a question
about synonyms. He asked me “What are cinnamons?” It was pretty
great. I reminded me of a kid last year asking me about similes. I
can't actually remember that one and don't feel like looking it up,
but I remember it being pretty funny.
It is now about 7:45PM and I am counting down the time until ten
o'clock so I can go to bed. I just want to sleep. I am passing the
time by watching YouTube videos and I'm considering playing a video
game. But I spend more time considering than I ever do playing, so
my hopes aren't high.
Tomorrow is picture day and I have a mosquito bite on my forehead and
I need a haircut. So that will be fun. At least I don't have to pay
for the pictures. I am more looking forward to picture day so I can
update my student directory with new pictures when they come back to
us. There are also a couple MAP tests to look forward to. But it is
an early release day so maybe I'll get a nap in after school.
