I am fairly certain I slept through the night last night, only waking
up once, and that was twenty minutes before my alarm went off. Even
when I don't fully wake up during the night I usually remember kind
of waking up to switch positions or something. None of that last
night. I would say it was nice, and it may have been, but it makes
the night go by a lot faster when you sleep through the whole thing.
The sixth grade teacher is leaving. Not really a loss because no one
seems to like her that much. Mainly because she often dresses
inappropriately and lets her class have the run of the school. But
she's leaving to be a science teacher at one of the middle schools
next year. The school learned this through a very poorly written
email she sent out this morning. Not so much poorly written as just
one big paragraph that had no respect for the tense of words. She
started off mentioning that there was a job opening and that she was
thinking about applying for it. And in the next sentence she had an
interview and was leaving it up to God. Right after that she didn't
know if she should take the job even if it was offered. But almost
immediately it was offered to her and she took the job. It is hard
for me to actually convey how weird the email was, as if she wrote
one sentence every couple of days. Regardless, she is leaving.
My favorite substitute was in the building today but I only saw her
briefly this morning when she popped her head in the lab and told me
she had an Amish girl she thought I would like. Completely random
and out of nowhere but also funny.
My second grade reading group is dropping like flies. Another kid
was gone today so the group was down to just two kids. Which I guess
makes it less of a group and more of a pair. I actually think the
group was more productive when there were three of them, which is
weird.
This afternoon I went to one of the first grade rooms because the
teacher couldn't get the ELMO to work. None of the buttons seemed to
be responding, including the power button, so I turned it on and off
again by just unplugging it. And it worked. It really is amazing
how many technological problems can be solved by turning something
off and back on again. Anyway, the class ended up coming to the lab
for the regular time about ten minutes later and the teacher said her
class thought I was really nice for coming all the way to their room
to fix their projector and several of them came up and thanked me.
It was pretty cute.
I came up with a layout for class pages for the yearbook today and
then put in all the pictures and typed in each kid's name. In
between all the other random things I had going on today I just
managed to finish that. I'm not even sure if any of my work is
serving a point though. The principal and one of the receptionists
have differing views on how the yearbook should be handled. The
receptionist thought they came to an understanding but then the
principal ended up saying that the same parent who did it last year
could do it this year and the receptionist was apparently not a fan
of her last time and it didn't take her long for her to fall out with
her again. So the receptionist is having me do all this yearbook
stuff. And I'm doing it not because I think I am actually designing
the yearbook but because I have nothing better to do with my time and
it is keeping me busy. I had an influx of work to do the day after I
sent my email requesting extra work but it has since tapered off,
leaving me the time to mess around with a potentially fictional
yearbook.
I asked my para friend if she wanted her full name or the shortened
version that she actually goes by. She went with the shortened
version, with an 'i', because she didn't want to be too formal. She
also mentioned that we should get a picture of us by the chair rack,
as proof that we always get stuck with the chairs and that we don't
get paid enough to do that. She suggested we hold a bunch of dollar
bills and I thought we should also make it rain. I don't know that
it would be included in the yearbook but if my potentially fictional
yearbook is in fact non-fiction, I could probably sneak it in.
Full-sized carrots are still amazing.
Tonight at work I read and watched G.I. Joe: Retaliation.
It was not a great movie. There was action but it was more often
than not, less than jaw-dropping. It just didn't seem real, and that
sounds a little ridiculous obviously, and it's hard to describe, but
it just didn't do it for me. There was also not enough comic relief.
They tried a few times but for the most part it was a failed effort.
It wasn't necessarily a bad movie but I think I would have been
annoyed if I had paid however much for a ticket. It could also be
due to my expectations. I never watched the first movie but based on
the trailers I imagined it to be at least kind of cheesy with some
good comic relief. That is what I was expecting from this movie and
they definitely wanted to go the serious route. It wasn't for me.
I was going to record my day when I
got home from work (I recorded my yesterday before work) but I didn't
really feel like talking when I got home. I just wanted to write
this and then go to bed because I have been tired for the last three
hours or so and I have to open in the morning. But it's not really
the morning because I don't have to be there until almost noon. That
used to feel kind of early when I was just working at the theater but
now that is after the time I usually eat lunch. It will be weird
opening though because it has been a long time since I've done that.
I might have time to record my day before I go to work and then
record my tomorrow, after work. Or just knock them both out after
work. I would like to get to the point where I record my day, on the
day, because it would be easier just to ramble on about it when it is
still fresh in my memory rather than trying to skim and summarize my
journal entry while I'm recording. I'll get it figured out
eventually.
