Today was an interesting day, for a number of reasons. The main one
was probably the fact that we celebrated my birthday at work. It was
early but I don't know that anyone outside of our department knew
that. I rolled with it. A lot of people around the building wore
green in celebration of my birthday, including most of the technical
services staff, who all came down as a group to wish me a happy
birthday. That was pretty cool. The director forgot to wear green,
she said she laid her outfit out over the weekend and then completely
forgot. To make up for it she stopped by later in the day to give me
random green office supplies. I got a green pen (with green ink), a
green highlighter, a green key tag thing, and a big green silicone
band. Another librarian and I tried to figure out what was up with
the silicone band, which is basically a giant rubber band. We did a
lot of Googling and we're still not entirely sure about it, but it is
pretty cool. Also, my filing cabinet drawer was decorated green and
I got a “Green Apron” box. It was my coworkers play on Blue
Apron. They printed out a Spring vegetable stir fry recipe and
included all of the ingredients I would need to make it. That's
pretty cool. I'm looking forward to making it. So my early birthday
was pretty cool.
My workday was interesting because I was doing things the whole time
but it also felt like I had nothing to do. I finished my monthly
report and finished all my monthly stat stuff. I spent a decent
amount of time designing a ticket that people will fill out for
summer reading prizes. The teen librarian sent me the template she
used last year and it was super basic, like just plain text basic.
It hurt me a little bit to see it, so I made a better one.
I also helped the occasional patron and started working on an idea of
what to do with my Oregon Trail game workshop next week. I
messed around a little bit with Kahoot as a way for people to vote on
how to cross rivers or random other choices. I'm still thinking of
having a main game up on the projector and then having each person
playing their own individual games. I also thought about handing out
certificates for the first person to lose someone to dysentery or a
snakebite, the first person to kill an ox, the first person to have
everyone die, and the first person to make it to the end. And
whatever other firsts I can come up with. I think there is a lot of
potential for fun if people actually show up. That's always the
tricky part.
After work I came home, ate my leftover Chipotle, and watched a bunch
of YouTube videos. I feel like I'm not going to catch up until this
weekend. I need to get better at watching fewer videos. I was
productive while watching videos and made a new van for a t-shirt
design for one of the kindergarten teachers at the school I used to
work at. That might be a confusing sentence. Along with teaching,
he also has an after school daycare thing, and he has different color
vans. Last year he asked if I could recreate those vans so that he
could put them on a t-shirt. This year he added another van and
asked if I could make it for the new shirt. So I did. It took a bit
of work but thankfully I saved the files from last year, which sped
things up quite a bit.
Now I'm going to record my audio journal and maybe buy a cheap video
game.
