Today is May 1st. It seems ridiculous that it is May
already. Time really does go increasingly faster the older you get.
Today at work I did things. I did a couple things related to the
monthly stats stuff I do at the beginning of each month. I didn't
finish all of the things because I kept getting sidetracked by other
things, but I got a start.
One of the sidetrack things was a small flyer for the resume workshop
next week. One of the other librarians thought it would be a good
idea to put a small sign by the computers, and I agreed and got the
okay from the PR lady. So I resized the normal flyer into a quarter
sheet, stuck it in a sign holder, and put them up by the computers
upstairs. Hopefully it will drum up some business because so far no
one has signed up yet.
I worked on a book list for my card catalog display and then at the
end of the day I was reminded that I was already going to do a
display based on a different idea. So, my second idea will now be
used in July because a display based on the theme of May flowers
wouldn't make much sense in July. My favorite part of the display is
that I am also going to include books about flour. The play on the
word is my favorite part of Stranger Than Fiction.
I'm also going to put up some books about the Mayflower, because why
not.
I helped patrons throughout the day.
I walked a couple patrons to different books they were looking for,
helped an older couple fill out a federal jury survey (which I
recently filled out myself), and helped another get started with
filling out a job application online. That ended up being a bit of a
chore because he didn't really know how to use a computer (though he
was a quick learner). We started by going to the website he needed,
and began creating an account but he needed an email address, so we
backtracked and created an email address, and then went back to
getting to the application. I helped him quite a bit but left him a
couple times so he could work on it himself. He didn't finish but in
theory it should save his progress for the next time he logs in.
My boss hired a new librarian today
to replace the librarian who is moving to Japan. She was actually in
my cohort during library school, so that's kind of cool. We never
really talked and I don't know that we were ever in any groups
together, but we'll get to know each other in a month when she
starts.
And I think that was pretty much my
day at work. At least what I can remember of it. It was a little
bit all over the place but also very slow. But it was a good day. I
accomplished things and I had fun with my coworkers.
On my way home I stopped and got
gas, waved at my brother and his girlfriend at a stoplight, and
picked up snickerdoodles that my sister made for a birthday thing
tomorrow. I'm not really a dessert person, which includes cookies,
and snickerdoodles have always been a disappointment. I think it is
similar to how Winnie the Pooh kind of ruined honey for me. He made
it seem like the best thing in the world but when you actually have
some it does not live up to that expectation. In the case of
snickerdoodles, it's the name. Something with that name should be
incredible, but it's not. It's very underwhelming. My sister used
my grandma's recipe and I've got to say, I'm still not that into
them, but they were kind of alright, which is saying a lot given my
past hatred of them.
When I got home I roasted vegetables
and made quinoa and brown rice. Delicious. I spent the rest of the
night catching up on uploading my audio journal videos, trying to
catch up on YouTube videos (and failing), paying my mortgage and
other bills, and clicking around the internet. And just now I got
really distracted so it is now after 11:30PM. I kind of wanted to go
to bed at a decent hour tonight but that's not happening. Oh well.
I'm going to stop typing now so I can record my audio journal.
