I
woke up early this morning, got ready, and then headed out of town.
The last time I went down for class they were burning the grass all
over the place. This time it was just endless fields of new green
grass. It looked really cool set against the cloudy gray sky. The
drive itself was uneventful, which is always good.
The
morning was filled with two panel discussions, one focused more on
cover letters and the other more on interviews. It looked like our
lunch was provided by the dining hall in small to-go containers. The
meat eaters got turkey or ham sandwiches on Texas toast bread
(untoasted) and the vegetarians (me and the law librarian) got a
green tortilla veggie wrap filled with veggies, obviously, and
hummus. It was pretty good but I could have done without the onions.
After lunch there was a presentation on writing a resume and then we
broke out into one-on-one sessions to look at our resumes.
We
learned a lot of information and I took a lot of notes, but I was a
little disappointed in the one-on-one session. My guy was very talky
and it was helpful in that it gave me things to think about when it
comes to interviewing, and he mentioned that I should change my list
of library interests to something more descriptive because everyone
will probably list those same things. Most of his advice was more
abstract and big picture stuff, which was good, but I was wanting
more editing of my resume. I think tomorrow or Monday I'm going to
send a message to the professor who gave the presentation on resume
writing and see if she would go over mine when she has the time. I
haven't had her for a class (though I will this summer for the ALA
conference trip) but she is a very straight to the point kind of
person and doesn't seem to pull her punches. That's the kind of
person I want critiquing my resume before potential employers start
doing it for real.
One
funny thing about the one-on-one session was that when I went in and
sat down across the desk from the guy, my chair had no support in the
seat, and it was already low to the ground, so I sunk way deeper than
I was expecting. It was kind of funny.
The
gray morning had turned into a beautiful afternoon with blue skies
and big white clouds. I had the windows down for a portion of the
ride home because the weather was so nice but ended up having to put
them up eventually because the already fast wind became too much at
highway speeds.
I
had planned on working on the group project when I got home but I
didn't. I was too tired. I did, however, sign the group up to
present Thursday morning at 9:00AM, and then sent the others an email
saying I had done this. I am indecisive in my own life but when
people try and bring that crap into a group project I'm the one who
steps up and pulls the trigger. I was tired of the back and forth.
I'll have to take the morning off of work and I'll miss a class in
the lab, but no one else seemed that willing to step up. I also
figure it was the utilitarian option because now I am the only one
negatively impacted. Now we just need to get the freaking project
done. No one sent me slides yet so that's nice. But I haven't done
mine, or written my part of the paper (because I don't really know
what I should be doing for that) so I can't really complain. I
really need to put in some work tomorrow. Finish the semester
strong.
Instead
of homework, I did laundry, watched some YouTube videos, and got
distracted by fountain pens. I found one on a website that cost over
$35,000 and it was super ugly. I imagine only one was ever made, not
because of the price, but because they knew no one was going to buy
the first one because it was so ugly so they didn't need to worry
about making more.
I
also replied to two discussion posts, so I guess I did do a little
homework.
It's
now almost 12:30AM and I need to go to bed so I can wake up at a
decent time. We'll see.
