This is the second day in a row I typed “Mary” instead of “May”
when writing the date at the beginning of a journal entry. Odd.
Despite my late night last night I was up before eight o'clock again
this morning. I stayed in bed until sometime after eight o'clock but
I still got up way too early.
It worked out though because I had a super productive morning. I
filled out the application for the public library job. I got tripped
up a little when it asked when I could start because the last day of
school isn't until the 25th but I couldn't technically
start earlier if they want me coming in after four o'clock when
school lets out. I also think I might have to mess with the
formatting a bit because I filled out the PDF electronically and it
looked good, but when I opened it later that major text box entry
looked funky. It still looked fine in the edit mode but I imagine
when I print it out it will go with the funky look and not the
editing look. I'll figure it out tomorrow.
I read through my reflective essay and was a little surprised with
what I was able to come up with late last night. I do truly
accomplish my best work when I postpone it until the last minute. I
don't even think I changed anything on that first read through.
I also filled out both of my class evaluations before lunch. So I
got a lot done. I was surprised with myself. And because of all
that progress, I took the rest of the day off. The only things left
on my school To-Do list are completing my practicum write-up and
applying for the public library job. I'm going to turn in my job
application tomorrow so that will be done. Tomorrow night I would
like to get the ball rolling on the practicum write-up. Having those
plans in place made me feel better about taking some time off.
I took measurements and used Publisher to recreate the page grid in
the Spencerian copybooks. I got pretty close with it but the grid in
the book isn't perfect so my recreation doesn't always match up with
it. Oh well. When I finished that I actually started scanning the
first copybook and adding the pages into a Publisher document. The
copybook pages are fairly short so when I added them into Publisher I
actually pasted it in twice, hiding the top of the page stuff behind
the first copy, so I ended up with the instructions at the top and
then a full page of the grid instead of just a half page. I want to
print one off tomorrow to see what it looks like. I like the grid
template I came up with but the problem is the example writing at the
top of the copybook pages. If the copybook grid ends up looking
weird printed out I might just cut out the instructions and example
at the top of the copybook pages and paste it at the top of my grid
template. Soon I will actually start working on my penmanship.
For Mother's Day dinner my sister picked up Chinese food. My mom
initially thought about getting pizza but after the fiasco last time
she didn't want to risk it. Pizza would have been good but I'm
always a fan of Chinese food. I prefer the buffet but the restaurant
we ordered from is good, too.
After dinner I gave my mom the turquoise Pilot Metropolitan fountain
pen I got her. I think she liked it. If nothing else she liked the
color of it and she can add it to her turquoise-centric room in the
house. If she ends up liking the physical look of the pen but not
the fountain pen itself I can always get her the rollerball version
instead so she will actually use it.
When I got back to my computer I reviewed my reflective essay one
last time, and changed one word, before turning it in. Then I
reviewed the rough draft and final draft of the technology plan
paper, changing a couple formatting things, before turning those in
as well. I was then able to check those things off my To-Do list,
signaling the fact that I am officially done with this semester. It
feels good.
I started writing my my leather-wrapped notebook tonight. I opened
with a brief introduction for what I hope to accomplish with the
notebook and then I wrote a couple quotes. Right now I think the
notebook will be reserved for random quotes and equally random
thoughts. The goal is just to get in the habit of writing, daily
would be nice, and hopefully I'll be able to see the progression of
my penmanship over time. Fingers crossed I can keep it going.
Now I'm going to go to bed because my eyelids are feeling heavy and
the thought of my bed is inviting.
