Today was a fairly uneventful day. I spent a lot of it reading one
of my textbooks. I learned that there was a librarian in the South
in 1957 that had to defend her choice to keep a children's book that
involved a white rabbit marrying a black rabbit. It seems ridiculous
but in the last year or two I believe there was controversy involving
a gay animal couple, so times really haven't changed that much. I
also learned that, like sit-ins at lunch counters, there were
read-ins at libraries. And, libraries were actually desegregated
before schools.
Other than that, I watched a few episodes of Psych
and organized my clothes a little bit. For years I have had an
overflowing basket on the dryer that I kept my underwear, socks, and
undershirts in. Or on because there was so much other crap in the
basket. Today I got a trash bag and ended up throwing away the good
majority of stuff in the basket, some of which was probably in there
for almost a decade. Now I can use the basket for dirty laundry
during the week and then fill it up with clean clothes after I do
laundry to carry them back down to my room. Now I just need to get
some hangers. I've got a closet full of them but at the old house
but they are currently holding up shirts which I need to go through
to see if I'm keeping them.
Tonight I came over to the old house
in time to plug my mom's DVR back in so she could record Big
Brother and all the other shows
she tapes during the week. I don't know that I mentioned yesterday
that we brought the DVR back to the new house and plugged it in so my
mom could watch the shows she had recorded on it, seeing as how the
cable company hasn't made it to our street yet. At first I couldn't
get it to work but it turns out if you select the correct TV source
it works fine. In my defense, the HDMI ports on the back of the TV
were labeled weird and most were obscured by HDMI cables. The
important thing is that it does work so now my mom can keep the DVR
plugged into the cable at the old house during the week and then
bring it to the new house during the weekend to watch her shows.
Less than ideal but until the cable company gets around to installing
cable and internet on our street, it will have to do.
I was going to work on my first
reflective journal entry based on the textbook chapters I read today
but when I got to the old house I was a bit fried from all the
reading so I just watched YouTube videos instead. Still have over
275 in my Watch Later list. I'm fighting a losing battle.
If I remember correctly, there are
four MAP test tomorrow. Starting things off with a bang. It'll we a
long day standing up, watching kids take tests. Can't wait.
