Today was fairly uneventful. This morning there were two MAP tests
and both went off without a hitch. There was a first grade and a
second grade class and only a couple kids raced through the test.
Everyone got scores though. This afternoon I had to test a fourth
grader and a fifth grader out in the hall with laptops because one of
the math enrichment teachers had the sixth grade class in the lab.
Something I didn't realize when I agreed to having the kids come
down. Normally it wouldn't be a problem but there are exactly enough
computers in the lab for the massive sixth grade class this year and
they were all here today. But it worked out alright in the end. I
also had most of the first graders finish up their tests from last
week during their lab time this afternoon.
While I was out in the hall with the kids testing I wrote some notes
on the case study group project for one of my classes. At the end of
the day I had a few minutes so I emailed “Ask a Librarian” on the
local public library's website, basically asking how newspaper
subscriptions work at a public library. Right after school I went
and got a haircut and when I stopped by the old house to grab my
Microsoft Office CDs, the librarian had already emailed me back. Her
email was very informative and kind of solidified my idea that in the
case, our solution should be to keep the most read newspaper. The
local library does a cost per use thing twice a year by having people
mark down every time they read a paper, which means the more people
who read a paper, the less it costs the library. So not only are
more people getting the benefit of the paper, the library is getting
more out of their money. She suggested I contact some larger
libraries to see how they do things, which I plan on looking into
tomorrow.
After dinner I installed Microsoft Office on my laptop so I can work
on Publisher and PowerPoint stuff for the group project, and I
started reading the chapters for this weeks research discussion.
Then I came over to the old house to watch some YouTube videos and
look things up on the internet. And now, I'm going to go back to the
new house and probably read some more before going to bed. Exciting
stuff.
