September 1, 2014

First night sleeping in the new house actually went pretty well. It helped that I was exhausted and that I was sleeping in my own bed. There were a few times that I was worried I was going to roll out of my bed, though. I have always had my bed against a wall and would sleep closer to that side of the bed. Now my bed is in the middle of the room but I was still sleeping toward one side and that was a bit treacherous. But I managed to stay in the bed and I slept in until sometime after nine o'clock. It was nice.

Another nice thing, there wasn't too much heavy lifting today. I made a run to the house to load up the trash can and some ladders and some other stuff, but nothing too bad. I didn't become drenched in sweat. I did have to take a shower at the old house though because there is no hot water at the new house. I guess the gas company guy came the other day and left and was supposed to come back in the house but then never did. That last step probably involved turning the gas on. I tried the primer thing on the hot water heater and nothing happened. Just to check I also tried the gas fireplace, which was also a no-go. So, showers at the old house it is then.

Around four o'clock I went over to my dad's house because today is his birthday, which he now shares with my sister's significant other. I had a quinoa veggie burger, baked potato, salad, and roasted red pepper hummus that my sister made. The hummus had a subtle roasted red pepper flavor and I was a fan. After dinner we sat around and talked for awhile before the opening of presents and then cake and ice cream. I didn't have cake because I don't like spice cake but I did have ice cream for the first time in years, not counting the occasional shake at Sonic. Although tonight the homemade ice cream was more of a shake because it didn't really freeze so it was more of a shake. There is a chance the freezer wasn't working properly. Regardless, it was good.

After all of that, before we left, my dad showed me his latest tool, which he bought with the Sears gift cards I give him. I very cool little circular saw. That is the one I should have bought. I still have yet to use mine. Mine is big and badass and I'm still scared of it. My dad's on the other hand, was much less intimidating and I probably should have gotten one that size. Oh well. Speaking of the gift cards, I need to go down and get one for a belated birthday present for my dad. I knew my dad's birthday was today but leading up to today I was a little sidetracked with work and school and moving into a new house. But I didn't forget. And my dad tends to get me my birthday cards months after my birthday so it is all good.

Now, I am writing this at the old house while watching a few YouTube videos before heading back to the new house. I'm grabbing all of my textbooks because we still don't have TV or internet over there so I'm not distracted by those things. Mainly the internet. I'm going to take my external CD-ROM drive so I can watch DVDs on my laptop though. I'm looking forward to getting the internet there so I can move my computer over. That is also a daunting task though considering all the cords involved in my setup. It took me forever to get it set up so I could record one of my monitors using my Elgato so hopefully I can recreate that in the new house. Fingers crossed.
