July 5, 2013

Today I woke up early to take my grandma to her doctor appointment. I told her I would be there between 8:45AM and 8:50AM. I managed to hit 8:50AM on the dot but she was thinking 8:45AM so she called right after I left my house (two minutes after 8:45AM) and left a voicemail wondering if I had forgotten and that she had called the doctor's office and told them she might be a little late. Thankfully I did not take offense to her almost immediate loss of faith in me. On the way home from the appointment we stopped by the car wash because her car got a little dirty sitting outside while my uncle was here putting in her new shower. This was good for both of us, her because she got a clean car, and me because now I can use that car wash on my own car. I have a problem with initiating things and change, in all aspects of my life, and I tend to avoid things I haven't tried yet. One of those things being that particular car wash. But now I have tried it so I can use it whenever I get in the mood to make my car look amazing on the outside.

When I got home I took a nap. I had only been awake for a couple of hours but that hour-long nap was pretty great. After getting up I burned a few more DVDs and then had some lunch before going to rent more DVDs. Returning DVDs the day after at Hastings makes renting the next time around feel like I am a fantastic shopper. Today I got the third season of Battlestar Galactica, the episode of Doctor Who that I was missing (Planet Of The Dead), and the second half of the seventh series of Doctor Who, all for less than six bucks. Fantastic. Then I went to the local rental place and rented the fourth season of Battlestar Galactica, the new Battlestar Galactica movie (Blood And Chrome), the two-episode special called The Plan that happened at some point during the series, and the movie Identity Thief, all for considerably more than I paid at Hastings. But I'm supporting local business. While it lasts. It seems like every time I go in there they are taking out shelves and reducing their inventory. Maybe they are just getting rid of stuff that doesn't get rented and making the place look less cluttered, but it feels like business isn't going well. They already closed down their second location and I would prefer they didn't go out of business because they have a lot of stuff that Hastings doesn't.

The rest of my afternoon was spent with DVD things and then another nap. And then I went to work. I earned my money for the night by fixing the curtains in one of the theaters. They were stuck on Scope, which is all the way open, and the best possible place for curtains to get stuck. When they get stuck on Flat, Scope are too big for the screen, the sides showing on the curtains. So it wasn't necessarily a big deal but it was annoying. First I checked the breakers because that is usually where the problem is when the curtains won't move. But they were all on. So I thought maybe the fuse in the motor had blown. So when the movie in that theater was over I went in and checked things out. I decided to try a switch that was on the motor first. The on/off label was rusted over so I just flipped it to the position it wasn't in. And the curtains immediately closed in for a Flat movie. Perfect. I went back upstairs and moved the curtains from Flat to Scope a few times just to make sure and everything seems to be good. The odds of that switch getting flipped are incredibly low so I have no idea how it could have happened.

When I wasn't working, I was working on my cross stitch, finishing the connecting piece between the two legs of the 'N', and getting a very brief start on the second leg. I also continued watching the sixth series of Doctor Who and reading Under The Dome. We were supposed to have a midnight tonight (actually 11:50PM) of Lone Ranger but no one came. I can't remember the last time no one came to a midnight. There are always at least a couple people. I've heard the reviews haven't been that great and maybe everyone who wanted to see it saw it in the last couple of days. It is also a pretty big commitment to go to a three hour movie at midnight. I'm just glad I got off work at 1:30AM instead of 3:00AM.

Lastly, this morning there was a giant pile of burned fireworks in the middle of the cul-de-sac and a bunch of small firecracker trash all over the place. But by mid-morning the cleanup began, including the trash that ended up in our yard and driveway. I can honestly say I was surprised by this but I appreciate that it happened in a timely manner.
