Today was the Fourth of July, as evidenced by the date, but it was
really just another day. As all days seem to be. At work I finished
watching Fawlty Towers and
started watching the sixth series of Doctor Who.
It does take me awhile to get into Matt Smith as the Doctor but as I
have said before, he makes it his own and I enjoy the goofiness. I
have the first part of the seventh series so I might jump into that
when I finish the sixth.
On my cross stitch I finished the
first leg of the second letter. I knocked out a bunch today. It
feels like I am getting faster at it but that could also be an
illusion. Tomorrow we have midnight shows which means I could
possibly be at work another eight or nine hours, like I have been the
last two days, so more progress should be made.
I also read more of Under
The Dome. I haven't heard
anything about the mini-series, other than Stephen King's endorsement
for it, but at this point it seems like I will probably be renting it
because the book is long as crap and I am not reading as often as I
should.
After work we had a family dinner
with fruit pizza for dessert. I ate way too much but I'm okay with
that. I didn't have a visit with the new volunteer kid tonight but
I did call his foster dad to let him know because I'm responsible
like that. They had some stuff going on for the Fourth so it ended
up working out. I spent the rest of my night watching YouTube videos
and burning DVDs.
There was a brief break to watch the
city fireworks from the backyard but that grew old kind of fast. And
then there was a bright light and the sound of a leaf blower from out
in the cul-de-sac. Most of the neighbors got together to set off
fireworks and have a party. We were not invited and I think part of
that may be because they think we called the cops on them when they
were setting off fireworks a day early. It was not us but we were
the only ones not participating tonight so that made us look all the
more guilty. But they are all idiots so I'm not really hurt about
not being included. The light coming from the cul-de-sac turned out
to be a giant bonfire. The whole week they have been unable to
unable to clean up after all the firecrackers they have been setting
off so I guess someone had the genius idea to set all their fireworks
trash on fire tonight. And then literally fan the fire with a leaf
blower to blow in all the smaller pieces of trash. But they were
fanning the fire so it just got bigger and bigger. A goddamn bonfire
in the middle of a cul-de-sac. One of the neighbors is a firefighter
so I imagine it was his bright idea yet it was one of the other
neighbors with the leaf blower and there were no signs of liquid,
other than beer, in case some fire-covered trash got away from them
and started a fire somewhere else. Way to be a responsible
firefighter, douchebag. We ended up calling the fire department and
they showed up after the bonfire had mostly gone out but they did
make firefighter-neighbor's wife pull a hose out and put out the
fire. So now instead of just sweeping up their trash like normal,
responsible people, they have a giant pile of half-burned, soaking
wet trash, making it infinitely harder to clean up. And I've already
mentioned their inability to handle the simplest of clean-up with a
broom. Idiots. We are now surrounded by idiots. My dad is a fire
chief and my sister texted him the firefighter's name to see if he
can figure out if the dude is a jackass in his professional life or
just his personal one. I'm going to guess it is both.
Tomorrow morning I am waking up
early to take my grandma to her doctor's appointment. Then I will
probably go rent some more DVDs because I only have the first two
seasons of Battlestar Galactica
and I would like to get the second part of the seventh series of
Doctor Who. And then
I am going to take a nap because I will probably be at work until at
least two o'clock in the morning. I'm looking forward to that.
