This morning I slept in and then got up so I could sent my email to
the HOA and write a couple checks (which I mailed on my way to work).
I ended up going with one big one for the past dues and one for
October. I haven't gotten a response from my email, so timely
responses aren't their thing. To be fair, I'm still a little annoyed
it took them almost a year to contact me. But to be fair, it took
them almost a year to contact me and now at least more than a day to
respond to my email, so my judgment of their timeliness seems
acceptable.
Today felt like a fairly unproductive day at work. I was on desk for
an hour, which gave me time to catch up on emails and a couple of my
monthly statistics things. Then I had an hour off and a lot of that
was spent talking to the teen librarian about adulting stuff, both
the class tonight and the future of the series.
For the two hours after that we had our tech drop-in. We didn't have
anyone for at least the first half an hour but then a lady showed up.
She works that the university and was having trouble accessing her
email on her laptop, phone, and tablet. My first thought was she
should talk with the IT people at the university, who are actually
located in the library I believe, but we did what we could for her.
We basically just added shortcuts on each device so she could more
quickly access her email. She should have been able to just use
Outlook and mail on her phone but I know in the school district that
was a more convoluted process than just typing in your email address,
so we recommended she talk to the people at the university. We also
had our old curmudgeon stop by and I showed him how to take
screenshots on his phone.
Then I had my dinner break and when I got back I was on desk for an
hour. And then we set up for the class tonight. We set out
schedules, brochures, paper, and pencils. We also decided to put out
water and lemonade, which were both popular, so it was a good choice.
The class itself went well, they had a presentation as well as
visual aids, some of which they passed around. We had twenty-one
people register for the class and I we're going with a total of
nineteen people being there (because we're counting myself and the
teen librarian because we were just as interested in the class as the
other attendees). I learned two particularly interesting things.
The first is that a taillight and a brake light can be accomplished
with a single bulb that has two filaments. Pretty cool. The second
thing is that a battery is filled with a mix of sulfuric acid and
water. As a battery depletes, a greater portion of the mix is water,
which means it is more prone to freezing in the winter and boiling in
the summer. Interesting. The instructors mentioned wanting to do a
class over the summer where people can actually bring their own cars
into the shop and get the chance to look things over up close and get
hands-on experience. I think that's a pretty cool idea and we're
going to see if we can make it happen this summer.
We got everything picked up with about five minutes before the
library closed, which is just about perfect timing. I got home
really quickly because I only hit two lights and they went fast even
when I hit them. When I got home I checked internet things and
watched YouTube videos. And now I need to record my audio journal
because it is after 11:30PM and I want to go to bed.
