Last night I went to bed around midnight and slept until my alarm
went off at nine o'clock. Then I rolled over and napped until ten
o'clock. It was great.
When I got to work I had a walkthrough and then had about three hours
until I was on desk so I went down to “weed”. The quotes are
because I only weeded two books. So in the 600+ books I didn't
manage to get out of the single digits. Today I first looked over
every single book to make sure they were all in decent shape. There
were some that were a little beat up and I probably could have pulled
them but I didn't. Then I went back over them individually,
comparing them to my list to make sure everything was there.
Anything that wasn't there I marked as “out” so I would know what
to check later. Doing this I managed to find one book that had been
deleted and somehow ended up back on the shelf. When I was on desk I
looked up all the books I had marked as “out” and a handful of
them were apparently “in” but hadn't circulated in awhile, which
makes me think they may be lost.
I'm technically done weeding large print but need to go back and
shift so there are twenty-four inches of books on every shelf. I
forgot about that part but I can do that tomorrow. Or eventually.
My boss changed her mind on the layout of the oversize collection and
asked me to shift them so I got a start on that tonight. I measured
all of the books and divided that by the number of shelves she wanted
filled to find out how many inches of books were needed on each
shelf. I also took an inch off for each shelf that would only one
book displayed on it, figuring the average book was an inch wide.
This was important because I went from 22.5” on each shelf to
20.5”. Not a big difference but by the end of the range of shelves
I would have been one shelf off, and that would be annoying. I
didn't make it very far into the actual shifting because after
starting I realized the 000s, 100s, and 300s (we don't have any 200s)
were intermixed for some reason. I only noticed this after a few
shelves and by the time I got them all sorted I had to stop because I
was on desk.
I spent the rest of the night adding all of the tech classes and
workshops to the official schedule. I didn't have descriptions for
all of them but I at least got the rooms reserved. This is good
because I ended up with one conflict and had to switch to the
auditorium for one of the video game discussions. Who knows how many
conflicts there would have been if I had waited longer.
When I got off work I went to the grocery store. It was a little
busy for nine o'clock at night but still better than going at five
o'clock. I got a bunch of vegetables, including asparagus, which I
haven't had in a long time but figured I would give it a try. I also
got cereal and almond milk because that sounded really good. And I
had a bowl of Raisin Bran when I got home and it was really good.
I watched YouTube videos for awhile tonight and then ended up talking
to my friend for about an hour on the phone. I haven't talked to him
in awhile so it was good to hear from him. He's going out on the
boat for five weeks so we caught up on things. Like the fact that
his sister is pregnant. I still see her as a little kid, much like
my other friend's sister who recently had a baby, so it is really
weird to think of them as having kids. Time is weird.
It's now midnight and I need to record my audio journal so I can go
to bed. I don't work until eleven o'clock but I am meeting my old
practicum supervisor at a coffee shop before that so we can work on
our conference presentation. I'm just hoping that doesn't take too
long so I have enough time to each lunch before work.
