Today would have been a great morning for staying in bed. It was
really difficult getting out of bed. But I managed it.
When I got to work I did all the opening stuff, including sharpening
a bunch of pencils. I think it is a mixture of our crappy sharpener
and a sub-par batch of pencils because there were an inordinate
amount of lopsided pencils. It was annoying.
It was a notes kind of day and I didn't take any. I'm pretty sure
I've already forgotten a lot of what I did today. I know that I
worked on my recap of my tutorial ecourse this morning. I didn't get
very far because other stuff was probably happening.
Oh, when we opened I was on desk for two hours. I spent that time
doing all of my monthly stat stuff. I updated spreadsheets and
charts and all that stuff. I also submitted my monthly report and
started another round of website recordings.
So it was a pretty productive morning. At least what I can remember
of it.
After lunch things happened and then at two o'clock we had our big
Fall programming meeting. It involved adult services, childrens, the
PR lady, and the assistant director. The idea was to get the
programming for both departments out in the open, so to speak, so we
could see if there were any obvious conflicts. The Childrens
schedule depends a lot on the school schedule, which hasn't been made
yet for next year, so they're still working with a lot of
generalities, unable to put specific dates on things. Our department
was able to have dates for everything and we've got it all planned
out through January. We were given until the first of May to have
the final version of the schedule, including short descriptions for
everything, so that the PR lady has time to get the schedules printed
and start the promotion stuff. It seems kind of crazy to have things
planned for eight months from now but it's also stress reducing. We
set new deadlines for future schedules so from here on out we'll be
ahead of the game, which will be a lot better for the PR lady.
After the meeting I had some time to kill before I was on the desk
again so I went and pulled the large print books that I needed to
weed based on their lack of checkouts. After talking to my boss
about a few of them that I didn't really want to pull but qualified
if I was really strict about the rules. She told me not to worry
about pulling the ones that were close because she had ideas for what
to do with the books if we didn't weed enough and didn't have enough
room on the shelves where we're moving them. So I think I ended up
with only five or six weeded books. Out of over six hundred. I
still need to go through the rest of the books and look for ones that
aren't in great shape, but there probably won't be too many of them.
I guess large print gets weeded on a more regular basis so there
isn't a big backlog of old books.
My last hour of work was on the desk. I caught up on emails that
hadn't been answered since noon, and then I spent some time messing
around with my DVD sign. One of the other librarians suggested
adding an explosion behind the dogs and in order to make it look
decent I had to layer the image with a picture of just the dogs
without the background on top, the explosion, and then the original
dog picture in the back. This way the explosion would be behind the
dogs but in front of the background. I got the dogs cut out but
still need to play with the explosion a little more because I ran out
of time for that. The teen librarian also suggested giving the dogs
name tags, so that one is called Thrills and the other Spills. I
thought that was pretty funny so if I have some down time I might try
that. This is really only for my own amusement because I'm already
pressing my luck with the plain dog sign.
When I got home I made pasta for dinner, because I still need
vegetables but don't want to go to the grocery store when so many
other people are there. Maybe tomorrow night after Chipotle. I
haven't had pasta in awhile so it was a nice change. Along with the
sauce, I through in a can of corn and a can of black beans, just to
make things interesting. It worked out.
I spent the rest of my night watching YouTube videos and reading
things on the internet. You know, the usual. Now I'm watching music
videos and wrapping this up so I can record my audio journal and play
The Vanishing of Ethan Carter. I took a bunch of screenshots
last night and they look so good. Not as good as being in the game
but still pretty good.
