I forgot to mention yesterday that according to my audio journal
count, yesterday was the 100th day of the year. That's a
lot of days. And I have recorded an audio journal for each one of
them. Not bad.
This morning I woke up, ironed my pants for the rest of the week, and
did all the other usual stuff before going to work.
I parked on a side street and as I walked away from my car a stranger
in a truck stopped, got my attention, and asked if my headlights shut
off automatically. How cool is that? Nice people still exist. I
told him that they did and thanked him for checking.
Further along the sidewalk I passed a lady who was humming to
herself. We exchanged hellos and kept on walking. I few seconds
later I heard her break into full-on singing. The singing was pretty
good but the fact that she was so in her own little world was
fantastic.
When I got to the library I did all the usual opening stuff,
including sharpening pencils until the sharpener overheated and died.
Love that sharpener.
I started a new personalized reading list today. I thought it was
going to be easy because the patron provided a lot of detail. And
then one book into it I looked at the request again and saw that they
wanted large print books. Good grief. Large print is the worst. It
made the list incredibly hard and ultimately inferior. They listed
several books that they liked and after finding over a hundred
readalikes (just a rough, probably low, estimate) we only had one of
them in large print. It sucked. By the end of the day I was able to
finish it but I wasn't very happy with it.
I took two or three months off from our Staff Picks display but on my
hour break between desk duty I went and found some books. Rather
than recycling books I've already pulled I broke out the list I've
been making of books I want to read. I think I got some good ones.
On my last two hours at work I was on desk and took that time to
finish the personalized reading list and I worked on my Twinery stuff
a little bit. I really wish I had a better idea of what to do with
Twinery as a whole because there is so much potential. I just need a
good story and some motivation.
When I got home I roasted asparagus to go with my leftover pasta.
Roasted asparagus is way better than sauteed asparagus. I drizzled
just a little bit of olive oil on it, sprinkled some garlic powder
and lemon pepper over the top, and cooked it for ten minutes at 425
degrees. And I say that just for future me in case I want to do it
again and forget the specifics. It was so good. It didn't really
taste like asparagus, it was just really freaking good. The stalks
were crispy and the tips were just a little bit crunchy.
I have spent my night watching 13 Reasons Why. Fucking Jeff.
He was a cool guy, I liked him so much. The thought hadn't even
occurred to me that he wasn't in the present. One thing I also just
realized is how they distinguish the past and present with facial
injuries. You can tell past Clay from present Clay because present
Clay has a big cut on his forehead. And later on, present Alex has
bruises on his face. The injuries themselves are really obvious but
using them to differentiate between two periods of time is subtle.
Or at least subtle to me because I was oblivious to it. But I like
it. Also, I'm very much Clay. My high school experience was vastly
different than his, thankfully, but there are so many relatable
things. Which doesn't help my emotional state. I'm going to finish
the eleven episode tonight and hopefully finish the last two tomorrow
if Chipotle night doesn't go too long.
Now I'm going to finish the episode and then record my audio journal.
And then go to bed. Because that is the best way to end the day.
