This morning when I went to work I restocked my DVD display and then
helped our volunteer with a shifting project in the large print. My
boss wanted us to make every shelf have twenty-four inches of books.
I made it through the non-fiction and the volunteer made it through
one range of shelves and we realized it was going to turn into a much
larger project than originally thought. She ended up with an entire
extra shelf of books, which meant we would at least have to shift
every single shelf in the rest of the large print section to
compensate for that extra shelf. And it would probably only increase
as we went. That seemed a bit excessive because the plan was to move
all the large print books upstairs in the next week or two.
I called an audible and decided it would make more sense to just
measure every row of books and do the math to figure out how much
shelf space that would take if we wanted twenty-four inch rows. The
volunteer started on this while I went up to convince my boss. And
it turned out she wasn't too invested in the shifting project, she
just wanted to know how many shelves were needed. So I went back
down and helped the volunteer measure all the books. After all the
addition and division we ended up with 163.5 shelves. Upstairs we
have 176 shelves available, so we're good. And we're filling two
displays with books, so we're actually more than good. It was also
nice only shifting a few hundred books rather than a few thousand.
When I was on desk throughout the day I worked on my class that is
coming up on Thursday. I made a handout, which is really just a list
of links that I think are useful resources. I also made a couple
more starter projects just to try out different things and show off
some of the things that are possible. I still don't have anyone
signed up I'll at least be kind of ready if someone does.
I had two free hours this afternoon and spent that time reading the
book chapter and the policy for our upcoming staff meeting. It feels
like we just had one. Time is really flying by.
On my way home from work I mailed a bill and got gas. Hopefully my
credit card number was not stolen. Again.
When I got home I sauteed asparagus with a little bit of garlic to
have with my leftover pasta. Cooking with oil in a pan is a pain in
the ass. It goes freaking everywhere. I don't like it. It's so
messy. The asparagus turned out well but I think next time I might
go with the oven.
Tonight I watched two more episodes of 13 Reasons Why. I had
to call it a night after two episodes because it is such an intense
show. It's draining. One tragedy after another. And it makes it
harder knowing Hannah's outcome and that there is nothing anyone can
do about it. This is why I tend to stay away from heavy stuff and
stick with comedies and action movies. I'm too empathetic.
Now I'm going to record my audio journal and then watch some YouTube
videos before bed. I open tomorrow. Yay.
