Good grief I'm starting this late. Thankfully there wasn't a lot
going on today so this should go quick.
This morning while eating lunch my Mom and sister stopped by with the
second shelf because Hobby Lobby ended up still having it. I was
trying not to get my hopes up but I'm pretty happy they were able to
get it.
Work happened today. It didn't feel very productive. I weeded for a
little while. It's going slower than my last few sections because
I'm flipping through every single book. I figure I am familiarizing
myself with the collection. I haven't really paid much attention to
our painting section but now I have a much better idea of what we
have. The best part of weeding, other than improving the
accessibility of our collection, is getting my hands on the
collection and increasing my awareness. I am much better at knowing
where things are when helping patrons thanks to weeding.
Tonight I found early 1900s menus for Delmonico's restaurant in New
York for one of the people in circulation, who needed the information
for a book she is writing. My initial thought was to go to the NYPL
website. Their catalog wasn't working but I eventually found my way
over to their digital collection, which is what I wanted, and was
able to find a bunch of scanned menus. NYPL's digital collection is
really freaking cool. I also like that you can buy prints of the
scans. They're a little rich for my blood but maybe someday if I
come across a really cool picture.
After work I met my mom at the mechanic so she could drop her car off
again. When we got back to the house I loaded up with my small
appliances that I hadn't had room for before the shelves. And when I
got home I found a place for everything on the shelves. My kitchen
is really starting to look like something. I like it. Baby steps.
This morning I made a lava trap in Terraria so I can stand
under it and easily collect all the loot when mobs die in the lava.
There are probably better designs out there but it's working for me.
Now I'm able to let the game run and hang out in relative safety
while doing other things and let the loot stack up. If I were to
make another one I would make it more like a funnel or v-shape so
that mobs would fall down into it and the loot would automatically go
into my inventory without me having to run along the trench to
collect everything. The main goal behind it was to increase my
collection of presents because those will probably go away soon.
Before the lava, I was waiting for nightfall, going far enough away
from my house for mobs to spawn, and then killing a bunch of zombies.
The lava trench gets the zombies at night but now I also get all the
slimes as well. I've I let it go for awhile this morning and for the
last hour or two, and I'm up to 82 presents, without having to run
around or fight any mobs. At one point I was killed by a King Slime
but I didn't have the game on screen at the time so I'm not entirely
sure how he got me. I need the event to happen again while I'm
actually paying attention.
Enough Terraria, though. I'm going to bed.
