This morning I woke up at a decent time and eventually got ready,
loaded up my car, and headed to my Mom's house to do laundry.
While my laundry was going I watched Star Trek: The Next
Generation and started to crochet the bear for my sister.
Crocheting a tiny bear takes a surprisingly long time. At one point
I took a break and to go mail a bill and stop by Jo-Ann's. I bought
some yarn needles and with the assistance of the lady at the cash
register, I found the safety eyes.
Tonight I spent at least a couple hours putting eyes on my Mom's bear
and my sister's bear. My Mom's bear took forever because it turns
out trying to put the back of a safety eye inside a project that is
already closed up. Despite my best efforts I couldn't get the circle
into the tight stitches and ended up having to trim down two of the
sides. And then once I got them inside the head I had to smoosh the
head in order to connect the front of the eye with the back. Pain in
the ass. It was only mildly easier with my sister's because I had
already gone just past the neck and stuffed the head. I had to pull
the majority of the stuffing out and then could only get one finger
up into the head so I still had to do a lot of smooshing from the
outside. I will have to keep this in mind for the future.
Also, I think maybe I made my Mom's upside down. I thought it was
odd that the head was bigger than the body but now that I'm making my
sister's, I think maybe it's the other way around. I don't think it
matters though. We'll see how I feel once I get the ears and nose
sewn on, but I think it will work out. Also, I think a bigger head
and smaller body will make a cool looking robot. Before I put the
arms and eyes on it reminded me of Marvin from Hitchhiker's Guide
to the Galaxy. Future project.
With my sister's bear I've got the body to finish and then all the
appendages. Still a chance I might finish by Christmas. Maybe.
While I worked on the crochet stuff I started watching The
Magicians. Apparently quite awhile ago I saved the first book in
my Amazon cart and now there is a show on the Syfy Channel. It's
interesting. I don't love it but I don't think I dislike it. I'm
intrigued. The main guy reminds me a lot of Chris Pratt. They could
be brothers. The former best friend of the main guy, Julia, is not
likeable. She looks vaguely familiar but I don't know from what and
there is just something about her face I don't like. And a lot of it
is probably her actions on the show. That adds a lot to the
likeability of a character. Or the dislikeability. Hopefully she
redeems herself and pulls her self out of the self-loathing pity
party. Doesn't seem like it though. I also feel bad for the actor
who plays her boyfriend because I like him but he always seems to get
screwed over on shows.
Now I'm going to go to bed. I've got to open in the morning and I'm
not looking forward to waking up early. Thankfully, this is only a
two day week for me. I'm not sure why I'm off Thursday and Friday
but I'm not complaining. It will give me a chance to hunker down and
finish the bears. Fingers crossed.
