Today already seems like so long
ago. At work I did things. I think most of my time was spent coming
up with books for my homebound patrons because we go out again next
week. I made significant progress, getting four or five out of my
seven patrons done. And I'm working this weekend so I've got so much
time. I also picked out my first four books to go on the Staff Picks
display. I think all the other staff members also brought their
books over today which led to a lot of good book conversations. One
of my favorite things about working in a library has to be the chance
to talk about books with my coworkers. I'm constantly finding out
about new books and now that I'm done with school I can actually
start reading some of them.
This afternoon when I was coming
back from lunch I ran into the old first grade teacher with her mom
in the parking lot. This is the same first grade teacher who was
also my reading tutor way back in the day. And the person I
referenced in my application letter to grad school. It was really
cool to run catch up with her and she was really excited that I had
finished school and gotten an adult job.
Last week I helped a man find
information about his mother and grandparents using Ancestry. He
came back today and I gave him information about DNA tests through
Ancestry and National Geographic, and showed him the books we had on
Native Americans. He is becoming one of my favorite patrons.
I know I did other things today but
I've either forgotten them or have decided they are not worth noting.
I will say that it was a good day. I accomplished things, I helped
people, and I had good conversations with my coworkers.
After dinner I spent my night
grading survey responses. I believe yesterday I graded eleven and
tonight I graded thirty-nine more. I timed the grading of the last
ten so I could get an average time, which ended up being around two
minutes per response. Doing the math, that leaves me with just under
four hours of grading left to do. That's not bad. Way better than I
originally thought. I should definitely be able to finish by Friday
if I can keep that pace going. Hooray.
My practicum supervisor also set up
a generic Gmail account so I can recreate the Google Forms mobile app
I made the other day. Using the generic account will allow her to
log in and have access to the data behind the app and be able to make
any changes to the form itself. I should be able to get that done
tomorrow and hopefully finish grading at least the first set of
assessment data, possibly even get a start on the second set. I've
got goals.
Friday I will finally get to play No
Man's Sky. It was released on
PS4 last night at midnight and my favorite streamers and YouTubers
are all streaming it and making YouTube videos about it. And I can't
watch any of it because I don't want the game spoiled for me. In
theory everyone's experience, at least visually will be unique,
because of the ridiculous size of the game and the fact that
everything is procedurally generated. But I want to experience it
for the first time, outside of trailers, for myself, without any
expectations formed by watching how others are playing the game.
Once I get into it I will definitely start checking out what others
are doing, but not until I try it first.
Soon I will be going to bed so that
I can sleep and it will be very nice.
