Today I slept in and it was glorious. I didn't even get out of bed
until I had to get ready for work and eat lunch.
Today at work I did things but it was a very uneventful day and
doesn't feel like there was much to write about. I looked through
some of the new books we got and I went from wanting to make my own
broth, to wanting to crochet a giant granny square blanket, to
wanting to do basic home repairs. My desires and hobbies are easily
influenced by books apparently.
As far as work-related stuff goes, I responded to and sent several
emails. I was still trying to come up with the second tech class for
October and it has been decided that it will be about genealogy,
taught by the genealogical society. Hopefully. I emailed our
contact there and she said she would be interested but she's got to
talk with her colleague and make sure the scheduling works. Fingers
crossed on that. I also started writing up a brief description and
time line for each class for my boss so she has all that information
in one place. It also gives me a more concrete idea of what I need
to get done, which is helpful. My goal in the future is to have the
outline for each class finished at the beginning of the month prior
to the month the class is in. That obviously isn't happening for the
classes in September but I want to have those outlines done by the
end of August. Then a week later I want to have the outlines done
for the October classes. And by the end of September I want to have
the outlines done for the November classes. Lofty goals.
It was a really slow night and I ended up spending most of it talking
with my coworker about random things like books, video games, and car
accidents. I really like that I genuinely like my coworkers. I
liked my coworkers at the elementary school and it is always a worry
starting a new job whether or not you will get on well with your new
coworkers. Coworkers can make a crappy job bearable and a great job
miserable. Thankfully I lucked out and like my new coworkers and my
new job.
About forty-five minutes before we closed we got a call from
circulation saying there was a car out in the parking lot with the
doors open and the engine running but no one inside. It was time for
my coworker's walkthrough so he went out to investigate. He found
the car and one of the doors was open but it wasn't running and the
keys weren't in it. He shut the door so the car next to it could get
out but the window was down and there was a purse and some other
valuable stuff on the seat. When we checked before closing the car
was gone so someone obviously came back for it. I'm not sure what
the story is behind the situation but in my mind it was someone who
just really had to go to the bathroom.
About thirty minutes before we closed I got a call from someone
looking for the phone number of a man. All she had was his name and
that he lived in town. It wasn't a very unique name so that wasn't
very helpful. It wasn't in the phone book (which is why the patron
called) so I checked our A-to-Z Database, our city directory, and
Ancestry.com with no luck. I found a couple numbers on Ancestry but
she didn't know his address or how old he was so I couldn't be
certain the numbers were correct. The patron wanted the number
because she was trying to contact the husband of her current house
guest who is apparently no doing well physically/mentally and the
patron thinks she may have to take her to the hospital at some point.
She doesn't want to get the police involved, however, because the
woman is originally from another country and she isn't sure of
whether or not she is here legally and doesn't want to open that can
of worms. I told the patron I would keep looking, and I'll ask my
coworkers tomorrow if they have any ideas that I didn't try, but I
don't think I will be successful. Always disappointing.
When I got home tonight I didn't want to get sucked into No Man's
Sky so I ate pistachios and watched YouTube videos. Not a bad
way to spend an evening. Now I'm going to watch a few more videos
and then maybe read a book for a little bit before going to bed. I
need to get back into the habit of reading for fun. I am still kind
of in the mode of avoiding reading until it has to be done because
that has kind of been my life for the last two years. I'll get there
eventually.
