Despite my room being darker than usual this morning, thanks to the
new curtains, I did eventually get out of bed. I would have
preferred to just spend the morning laying in the dark listening to
music. I'll have to do that some morning.
Most of my day at work was spent working on stuff for upcoming tech
classes. I'm not teaching the first one but I need to come up with
the outline and handouts and all that. Part of that process today
involved creating a Gmail account for the tech classes so I can
create forms for the classes. The first class is about our library
resources and after giving a brief overview of all of them I want the
people in the class to use a form to check all the resources they are
interested in learning more about. The librarian teaching the class
will then be able to go through the top five or so and give a more
in-depth explanation and show off what they can do. I also want to
use a form for the evaluations at the end of the class. This will
save paper but I will also have all the data in one spot, not in a
stack of papers that I then have to go through to gather the
information. Hopefully we don't end up with a class filled with
people that aren't great with the computer.
The chat had been quiet all day until about three minutes before I
was supposed to go to lunch. That is when I got a question about an
interlibrary loan that led me on a hunt that took far too long. The
patron wanted a textbook which I could only find out of state from
university libraries, which meant they probably wouldn't send it and
even if they did they would charge a lot of money and it could take
at least four weeks to process the request. In my search I found the
textbook on Amazon, where it could be rented for less than thirty
bucks. I brought this to the patron's attention and they decided to
go with that option. Wish I would have started with that option.
Tonight I didn't really accomplish much. I paid for my vehicle
registration, I read a little bit, I watched a movie and YouTube
videos, and I clicked around the internet. An uneventful evening.
Now I'm thinking about going to bed because I need to go to bed so I
can wake up early and go to work. Hooray. I wish weekends were
longer.
