Today started off pretty slow. I checked emails, weeded the last of
my current section, started cutting things for our Harry Potter
event, and did other things I have since forgotten. I really need to
get better about writing things down as they happen.
After lunch I had my meeting with the Children's Department about the
scheduling software. It went well. I learned how they use the
software, and it sounded pretty much exactly like how we're supposed
to use the software. So I'm not sure what's up with people in IT
being so annoyed they won't even talk to them about it. The only
thing they could think of was how they had been scheduling their
staff meeting, which just came to light as being an issue, and they
have since changed that. Who knows. I took notes and gathered their
questions. This was actually the easiest part of this whole
mediation thing. Following the meeting I emailed the IT people to
see when they could get together with me and talk about things. That
will be the more challenging meeting. At least on paper. We'll see.
When I got back to the desk the rest of the day flew by. I spent at
least an hour helping a woman with one of our digital book services.
This morphed conversations about other digital resources, watching
things from her computer on her TV, watch she likes on Netflix, and
our diets. It was an interesting spiral. And I liked it, it made
the hour pass.
While that was happening I missed two phone calls and two chats came
in. I answered the chats and returned one of the phone calls after
the patron left and then composed my email to the IT people. I also
helped a patron who was having printer issues on one of our
computers. That involved restarting a bunch of stuff and I ended up
printing her letter from my computer to save her the time of having
to go downstairs because there weren't any available computers
upstairs. It ended with another happy patron, so job done.
When I got home I had my leftover pasta and potatoes with a fake
chicken sandwich. Delicious. Following dinner I clicked around the
internet for awhile and then started watching Captain America:
Civil War. I never got around to seeing it when it came out.
I've got about thirty minutes left and I'm enjoying it so far. It
has made it a bit difficult to process my day and write this,
however, because I've been at it for far too long.
Now, I'm going to pause the movie so I can record my audio journal.
Then I'll finish the movie and go to bed. Sounds like a solid plan.
