When I got to work I was on desk for two hours. I spent that time
helping the occasional patron and writing a blog post about taxes. A
blog post that no one will probably read because it is long and
boring.
Following my desk time I tried to be productive. I took three small
carts of books upstairs. I took the first one up and then when I
brought the next two I told the lady responsible for processing them
that it looked like she wanted more books. She responded that looks
can be deceiving. Pretty funny. I also called my homebound patrons
and put out some tax handouts. There might have been something else
in there but the morning really flew by.
On my way back from lunch there was a school bus up ahead of me. I
am quite certain that it was a bus full of kids from the school I
worked at. And one of the kids in the back, who I recognized, ended
up having a dance-off with the passenger in the car immediately
behind them. I didn't see how old the people in the car were but
they were definitely participating and they waved goodbye to each
other when the car had to turn off. It was pretty great.
After lunch we went out to deliver books. My first patron ended up
not being home. I walked back to the van but the other librarian was
still in talking to her patron and she had the key so I was left
standing by the van for at least ten minutes. Thankfully it was in
the low 50s today but I was in the shade and the breeze was a tad
chilly. My jacket isn't made for breezes. I gave her crap about
that for the rest of the day. Frost bite and the loss of a toe were
involved.
We skipped my second patron because he had moved from rehab back into
the hospital, which is unfortunate.
In the first nursing home one of my patrons was in bed when I knocked
on the door. I needed to find one book that she's had out for at
least a few months now but I couldn't dig around her room. And when
we got back I found out another book was missing from her bag. So
that's another one to worry about.
My last patron had some friends over and they were cooking. This is
the patron that doesn't see very well and when I walked in she was
wearing a headlamp, I presume to help her see whatever she was
working on. I told her it looked like she was ready to go spelunking
which she thought was pretty funny.
When we got back from delivering books we went through all of the old
books and left them for circulation. Then we eventually set up for
the small birthday party as soon as the librarian whose birthday we
were celebrating went to dinner. I was in charge of covering her
assigned cabinet drawer in wrapping paper. I took that job seriously
and was very precise about it. It turned out well. When the
librarian got back from dinner she was really surprised, mostly
because her birthday isn't until next week so she wasn't expecting
it. We did it today, however, because she is taking next week off
and today was the only day everyone could be at work at the same
time. My sister's peanut butter bars topped with chocolate were a
big hit. Everyone had at least two and some had more, so I would say
that is a plus. They also all wanted the recipe.
The party happened when I was supposed to get off so I hung around
for a little bit and then went to pick up Chipotle. My mom had other
plans so my sister came over to my house and we ate Chipotle and
watched The Big Fat Quiz of 2016. I always enjoy those. It
has also gotten me in the mood for 8 Out of Ten Cats does
Countdown. It has been far too long since I've seen that show.
The rest of the night I watched some more YouTube and then started
writing this. Now I'm going to record my audio journal. I will once
again be playing Farming Simulator 15. Tomorrow I have to
open and I'm not looking forward to that. Getting off at five
o'clock is nice but getting there at eight o'clock is less desirable.
