I spent so many hours working on my website today. It was pretty
much my entire day and I lost track of everything I worked on but I
made a lot of progress. The thing I am proudest of is getting my
three menu buttons to highlight the current page. I could get it to
change color when I hovered the mouse over the buttons but it
wouldn't stay that color to show the current page. I tried so many
different things and finally got one of them to work, and it almost
didn't because I had a few extra commas in the code. But it works
now and it is glorious. I also put a slight delay on the color
change with the mouse hovering, so there is the briefest fade in and
fade out, which makes it look way better somehow. I also gave up on
trying to make the embedded YouTube video small, centered, and
responsive. I could make it small and centered but not responsive,
no matter what I tried. Now it is centered and fills the whole main
area and it is responsive, which means it will grow and shrink when
the browser is resized. And that is really what I wanted. I also
made my headers look nice, adjusted font sizes and spacing, and
rounded some corners.
When I had finished all of that stuff I looked through the
requirements for the assignment and it looks like all I'm really
missing is using the 'float' element in CSS. I don't really have any
need to use that so that is annoying. I've spent a lot of time
trying to come up with an idea and I think I finally have one but I'm
not going to mess with it until tomorrow in case it becomes more
involved than it should.
I got so caught up in working on my website that I not only lost
track of time, I also kind of forgot what day it was. When I finally
noticed the clock it was 4:30PM and my initial thought was that I
should probably run on the elliptical so I would still have time for
a shower before dinner. And the thought of dinner made me pause for
a split second before remembering that today was Wednesday and it was
Chipotle night. So I skipped the elliptical, hopped in the shower,
and went to get Chipotle (after stopping to get a Powerball ticket at
one gas station and gas at another gas station, because that's what I
do).
My burrito tonight was pretty good. It helped that I was really
hungry. My mom didn't really participate in Chipotle night because
she was feeling like crap. It started last night and she assumed it
was food poisoning. This morning she was feeling better but
throughout the day she started feeling bad again. So tonight she sat
in the recliner while my sister and I ate Chipotle. Rather than
playing videos after dinner like I normally do I played a single
episode of 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown while we ate. That
is one of my new favorite British shows that I randomly found online
and now I have seen so many episodes of it.
After dinner I worked on my website and watched YouTube videos. A
little after eleven o'clock I decided to run on the elliptical so I
wouldn't miss a day and ruin my streak. Today was the 31st
day, which is really surprising. For one, it doesn't seem like it
has been that long, and two, it might be my longest streak of
exercising. I usually crap out way before this. Tonight I only ran
for forty-one minutes, and I say only because I could have gone
longer but it was almost midnight. Originally I had planned to only
run for thirty minutes but at that point I didn't feel like it was
enough so I decided to finish out the CD I was listening to, which is
around forty-one minutes long. When I was done I took my second
shower of the day, which was weird because I can't remember the last
time I took two showers in one day. Or took one at midnight. It's
definitely been awhile.
My goals for tomorrow are to figure out the 'float' element for my
website and then upload everything to the school server so I can get
it online and check it for responsiveness and accessibility and
errors. I'm really hoping I haven't totally screwed something up. I
get a lot of the CSS code but there is also a lot of it that I
understand just long enough to get it working and then immediately
forget it when I move onto the next thing. It takes a surprising
amount of code to make a site look clean and simple.
