Another exciting day in the life of me. I did things but the day
still seemed to go by without much being accomplished. Oh well. I
read an issue of National Geographic,
which was interesting as always.
I tried on my old dress shirt and
found I will probably be buying another one this week before my
interview next week. It has a pretty good fit while I'm standing but
when I sit down it gets a little snug. I also want to get a new pair
of pants so it won't be too much out of my way to get a shirt as
well.
I watched a movie from 1968 called
Voyage To The Planet Of Prehistoric Women.
I was not surprised by how bad it was. The planet is Venus, because
the goddess of love, which they make a point of noting, but the men
and the women are never in the same shot. The movie starts by two
guys and a robot (a dude in a robot suit) flying to Venus. They
crash land and three more men fly to Venus in order to rescue them.
For most of the movie, the first crew is fumbling around the planet
and the second crew is trying to find them, exploring the planet as
they go. All the while there are random cuts to the women, who are
all wearing long white skirts and shell bras. They also only
communicate telepathically. At some point, the second crew is
attacked by a Pterodactyl and they kill it. We then learn the women
worship the Pterodactyl as a god, so when they find the dead body,
they get pretty pissed, inside their heads, and call upon the gods to
kill the men who killed the Pterodactyl. There's a whole bunch of
lava (which takes out the robot) and then a flood. Both crews get
back on the second ship and barely manage to escape before the flood
overtakes them. The women then revolt against their Pterodactyl god,
knocking down their statue, because it wasn't powerful enough to kill
the men, which means they much be superior. The women need a new god
now so they find the robot and erect him as a statue because it is a
symbol of the all-powerful men who survived the onslaught of the
Pterodactyl god. So, men are not only superior to women, they are
greater than the gods. Ignoring the fact that these women are
capable of communicating through telepathy, and they can call upon a
god who can control water and lava. Yeah.
I picked out the glasses frames I
want from my Warby Parker home try-on box. It was difficult because
three of the five were nearly identical, but I finally decided on a
pair. Tomorrow I need to mail them all back and then at some point,
schedule an eye exam. I imagine it will be a bit awkward asking for
my prescription because they sell frames at the place I get my eyes
checked. But, it's my prescription and I'm already paying the doctor
to check my eyes, so it's not like I'm screwing them over.
Tonight I played a little
Borderlands 2, did
laundry, read library stuff, and watched the Tony Awards.
The opening with Hugh Jackman
jumping up and down around the stage and back stage was exhausting to
watch. I would have been wiped out after thirty seconds and he just
kept going and going and going. My favorite performance of the night
was Aladdin because I
really liked the genie. It was only a brief glimpse into that
performance but I was not surprised when the actor who played the
genie won an award. My other observation from the show, Neil Patrick
Harris makes for a scary looking lady. Verging on terrifying.
It is getting late now but tomorrow
I want to wake up early so I can mail a couple things and get my
Powerball ticket before I go to work. Thankfully I don't have to be
at the theater until almost noon. Hopefully we'll have late shows
next week as well because I have a haircut at ten o'clock next
Monday.
