When the United States scores a goal in the World Cup, both of my
hands shoot up into the air. And I'm not making a conscious effort
to do so. I think I get sports now.
This morning I woke up early so I could go eat a family breakfast.
My sister and I got there way before everyone and went in to reserve
a few tables so we had room. Right after we were seated, my dad,
uncle, and grandma showed up. Then my brother, aunt and uncle, and
my brother's girlfriend. I was torn between getting waffles or
pancakes and instead got eggs. Makes sense. My grandma got a waffle
and it looked really good. Almost everyone else got an omelet and
those also looked really good. My eggs and hash browns were good
though.
After breakfast the adults were going back to my grandma's to talk
about my grandma moving down to live with my aunt and uncle. My aunt
is all gung-ho about it and was wanting to move her down there today.
The grandchildren (my sister, brother, and I) were supposed to meet
them over there later to see what we wanted out of the stuff my
grandma wasn't going to take with her. That just seemed really weird
and uncomfortable to me. And thankfully it didn't happen. I don't
know what happened in the adult meeting but it lasted until almost
dinner time and the grandchildren weren't called into play.
I spent my day watching World Cup games, doing a little Ruby
programming, watching YouTube videos, and going through fonts. I
think I want to base my left-handed writing style on Courier New
because it looks really crisp. The downside is that it is kind of a
pain to write. Even if I were writing with my dominant hand I think
it would be a pain. Just very tedious. Also, the lowercase 'a' is
tricky. Same as the lowercase 'a' in Times New Roman. It looks good
in a font but it is hard to replicate in handwriting. At least in my
numerous attempts so far.
Tonight the United States played Portugal. They needed a win to
advance to the next round. In the first five minutes they gave away
a ridiculous goal after a defenders mistake. They were then able to
rally and score two points and they stayed in the lead until the last
twenty seconds of the game. On the very last play, in the fifth
minute of stoppage time, Christiano Ronaldo, who had been completely
worthless the entire game, crossed the ball into the box and his
teammate headed it into the goal. Son of a bitch. On the very last
play of the game that asshole had to cross the ball. It was very
frustrating. Now, instead of getting an automatic pass to the next
round, the United States has to at least tie with Germany in their
next game. It would have been much nicer if they had knocked
Portugal out of the World Cup. They seem more than capable of
holding their own against Germany, hopefully, but Germany will get an
extra day of rest and I think won't have to travel as far, so the
odds are against us. I just want the United States to advance
because I enjoy watching them play. I'm not to the level of decking
myself out in red, white, and blue, and painting my face, but I am a
fan.
The best commentator comment of the day was: “The sweat is dripping
off of everybody, including your commentators. I hope that doesn't
put anyone off their tea.”
