June 12, 2014

Today very much resembled yesterday. I got to work early for the kid show and spent that extra time labeling all the extra bits in the S book. I made a list of where each thing was located in the book and then put a small post-it note on the item and the page before, before putting the item in a bag. I didn't want anything falling out while I was reading or just interfering with the reading process. I ended up reading the first chapter of the book and it doesn't seem like the loose items are placed in the book with a purpose. The margin writing will reference an item but not on the page where that item was placed. So it is good to know what all the items are but it doesn't really matter if they aren't in order. I don't know if I have settled on a way to go about reading the book but with at least the first part I have decided to read the story itself and then the blue/black margin writing as I come to it, ignoring the other colors. I almost think it is better to ignore all the margin stuff until after I have finished the book because some of it is obviously based on knowledge I won't gain until later in the book, but it is hard to ignore it sometimes. So far, I am enjoying it.

I also briefly started reading the latest McSweeney's book which is a collection of crime-themed short stories by Latin American authors. And I continued reading the Stephen King book. I'm not exactly sure why I started two new books (and almost a third) instead of continuing to work on all the other ones I have started, but I did. And it's too late to take it back.

That was my day at work. Reading. I think I glimpsed at a few movies long enough to make sure they weren't messed up, and I watched a trailer, but other than that my nose was in a book. My day was not too terribly exciting. I expected nothing more or less.

Tonight I did not have a visit with the new volunteer kid because he was going to be working on replacing the driveway at his foster house. Last week it was completely torn up, so I believed his story. Instead of the visit, I watched the first game of the World Cup, Brazil v. Croatia. It could have started better, with Brazil not scoring an own-goal, but it happened. And after scoring a goal on the correct goalie, Brazil caught a break and got a ridiculous penalty kick, putting them in the lead. One of the Brazilian guys totally took a dive in the box and the ref bought it, which is a shame because I think it was one of the refs from the last World Cup who I actually liked. Later in the game Brazil put the nail in the coffin with a third goal (fourth if you count that first one). There were times I really thought Croatia could pull it off because Brazil really didn't look that great, but it didn't happen.

With the rest of my night I watched YouTube videos and read about library stuff. I'm definitely hitting that Groundhog Day summer feeling.
