January 3, 2016

This morning, as the final morning of winter break, I stayed in bed long after I actually woke up. My new sheets are just so inviting, it is hard getting out of bed. That might present a problem when work starts tomorrow. That and the fact that I'm not even remotely tired at the moment.

Today I sewed for a bit. I made another test coaster using my new square ruler and the rotary cutter. That combo is definitely the way to go. The cutting was so much easier, like a warm knife through butter, and it was all perfectly straight. My sewing still leaves a little to be desired but at least my cutting is straight now. I also tried a new idea for sewing the middle of the coasters. Instead of trying to sew increasingly smaller squares, I just did one continuous spiraling squares that was intentionally angled in so I didn't have to worry about getting the spacing between the lines perfectly even. I would probably still be working on it if that were my goal.

Then I moved on to some of the actual fabric that I want to use and I changed to white thread. I ironed the fabric first, then sewed the pieces together and turned it inside out. I'm still not entirely sure how to fold the pieces on the open side in but ironing them flat after folding them in definitely helped with sewing. I can do better at the folding in, though. There's probably something obvious that I'm missing, like cutting the fabric differently. I've thought about sewing one flap to the batting before sewing the pieces together so I only have one flap to worry about. I'll have to experiment. And search the internet, because I'm sure others have experienced, and hopefully solved, this issue.

I went with the crooked spiral to sew the middle of the coaster and I really like how it looks. That was a simple solution to my inability to make perfect squares. Now I just need to make a lot more. And buy an iron of my own so I don't need to borrow my mom's. I discovered that an iron really is a necessary accessory for sewing. And probably just for being a responsible adult.

Tonight I watched movies and played Tera, because that has become a thing. And will probably be a thing until school starts up again. I may even be max-level by that point. I think I made it to 63 tonight thanks to daily quests, maybe even 64. I can't remember, but 65 is max so I'm close. I've gotten to the point with the quests that I'm not even really reading them anymore. Only when a question mark doesn't pop up on the map and I have no idea what I'm supposed to do. I am still kind of interested in the story but I don't have the time to read everything. I'd probably still be in the 30s if I did that.

The movies. I watched Horrible Bosses 2 and Last Knights. I need to go back and watch Horrible Bosses because I don't remember much of that. I'm not even sure I saw the whole thing all the way through. I feel like it is one of those movies that I only saw parts of and they were probably out of order. Or maybe I did see it. I don't remember. Maybe I'll watch it tomorrow. Anyway, it didn't seem that necessary to the story because the second movie was funny. Chris Pine nailed the crazy. Last Knights was interesting. Most of it was just depressing and pretty dark. If people hated the long build up and short fight in the new Fantastic 4, they definitely wouldn't like Last Knights. The last fight was pretty cool but I don't know that it was worth all the dark stuff and slow build. I wouldn't have watched it if I wasn't also doing something else.

It's now eleven o'clock and I'm not really tired. Six o'clock in the morning is going to come way too soon. My goal is to wake up and exercise, because I've started that up again. Tomorrow might be an off day. Not ignoring my alarm when it goes off in the morning might be a real struggle.
