Right now I am watching the movie
Expelled and it is
pretty awful. It is another example of a movie where the lead
character is a completely unlikeable douche and you wish the
supporting characters had bigger parts. The best friend and brother
are funny, the main character is just a douche. Also, I imagine the
makers of the movie are hoping the young lead is perceived as cool,
maybe like Ferris Bueller, although maybe I would also see Ferris as
a douche if I were to go back and watch that movie again. Anyway,
from an adult perspective, the “cool” lead is going to grow up
and probably have an awful life. Charisma doesn't make up for not
getting a high school diploma. There's still twenty minutes left in
the movie so I'm interested to see how they try and redeem the lead
and salvage this failure of a movie.
Today I jumped back into Ark.
I just want to kind of exist in the world so I figured out how to
set up a singleplayer world. I also adjusted a bunch of the settings
to make things easier. I want to enjoy the game and don't have time
for the beginning grind. I left the dinosaurs normal to start with
but after getting ganked several times and having to start over I
finally turned their damage down all the way. Now my only obstacle
is the weight of my inventory. I have to make so many trips up and
down the hill I built my house on in order to get materials for my
house. And it is extra annoying that my character becomes over
encumbered before I actually reach the max carry weight.
I also played a little Tera
today but that was mainly just
for something to do while I watched movies. I ended my run tonight
when I was in the middle of kiting and beating up a bunch of bad guys
for a quest and a group of other players came up and ganked me from
behind. It's been awhile since that has happened and it was a good
reason to stop for the night, so I'm not even mad.
Before dinner I went to Jo-Ann's and
spent some of my Christmas gift card. One of the things I wanted to
get was a bigger cutting mat but the one I wanted smelled awful and
it was really thin. The main negative reviews online said it had a
very toxic smell, and some of the positive reviews refuted those
claims, but the ones in the store definitely weren't appealing to my
nostrils. Instead I bought a rotary cutter, thread snips, a square
ruler that is the right size for the coasters I want to make, a tiny
ruler to use on the sewing machine to line up my stitches, fabric
pins, and a couple fabric pencils so I can mark stuff. It was a
successful trip.
When I got home I had just enough
time to take down the Christmas lights. It's always a much faster
process than putting them up. Probably because I don't put much
effort into making it easy for myself next year by wrapping up the
lights nicely. I'll regret that next year but now I'm glad they're
down. And that I didn't fall off the rickety ladder.
Expelled has ended and they
took the easy way out. Turns out the discovered the principal was
stealing money from the school for online poker and they blackmailed
him to re-enroll the lead character. He's still a douche and didn't
really learn any lessons. And I watched the whole thing.
Tomorrow is the last day of winter
break. Kind of sad but it'll be nice going back to work. And I
don't have to go back to school until the 20th,
so life is still good. My goals for tomorrow are to sew. And
probably play video games and watch movies. But yeah, sewing. I
need to do more of that. With the cool new toys I bought today I
have no excuse not to.
