July 7, 2017

I am thankful I took notes today because it is almost 1:30AM and I am tired.

I left for work early so I could stop by Walmart and pick up the two telescoping shower caddies I bought last night. The idea is to use them to mount the sensors for the Vive in a less permanent way. My timing was pretty much perfect but when I got back to the pick up area it took seven minutes before anyone helped me. I hit the little thing that was supposed to notify someone that I was there but then I just waited forever, and swatted at a fly that kept landing on me. Three people asked if I needed help, one went to find someone, one called for someone, and the other was after someone finally showed up. I get why you wouldn't staff someone to just sit back there in the off chance that someone showed up for a package, but they obviously need a better notification system. I ended up being a minute late for work.

As I was getting out of my car to head into the library I realized I had forgotten my jacket. I think that is the first time that has happened. And the air conditioning was working today so it was a little bit cold. I knew something felt off when I was leaving my house but was in a hurry and didn't realize the funny feeling was a lack of jack slung over my arm.

I submitted the conference proposal today. The academic librarian said it looked good and that I could be the lead presenter on the submission so I went ahead and did that because I wrote most of the proposal. Even though the original idea wasn't mine, I am going to count this as my first conference proposal.

I worked on a personalized reading list today and was able to finish it. It was pretty easy because they provided a long list of books they liked. They didn't say why they liked them, but it's better than nothing. I was able to find readalikes and I think I made a pretty decent list. And found a couple books that I want to read, because you can never have too many of those.

My dinner break today was at 3:00PM. That's worse than the regular 4:00PM dinner break. I ended up going home so I could grab my jacket and that cut significantly into my break. It would be much nicer to just stay at the library and get a full hour, instead of wasting most of it on leaving the building. But I also don't want to stay and talk to people. If I had my own cubicle or office I would definitely stay.

I started working on program proposals tonight, which is something we need to be more thorough about now. It is supper tedious and seems somewhat confusing, even for the people who came up with it. It's a work in progress so we're all just trying to power through.

At the end of the night I printed out more scavenger hunts (because we were once again running low) and wrote numbers on more prize drawing tickets. We are supper close to hitting seven hundred adults signed up for the program, which is far and away better participation than we have ever had. That's pretty cool.

I went to the grocery store after work and just got veggies, brown rice, and cherries, because they are delicious. I want to make tacos again but forgot to get a sweet potato. They did have asparagus though, which they didn't last time, so that's something. I might need to go back to the store this weekend because I want to make biscuits and I didn't check any of the recipes to make sure I have everything.

When I got home I put stuff away, changed my shirt and shoes, and then went to pick my friend up so we could go to the bars, which we generally do when he is in town. I think we went to three bars and walked through another one. My throat will probably regret all of the loud talking tomorrow but I had a pretty good time. I also ran into a guy I used to work with at the theater. I haven't seen him in forever, possibly even close to a decade. He's apparently working on finishing a master's degree, taking a little longer than he would like. It's crazy though because when he started at the theater he was a sixteen year old kid, and now he looks like an adult. Earlier in the night I had commented to my friend that all I saw were children, because apparently twenty-one looks like thirteen now, but it was nice seeing someone that didn't look like a child.

It is now almost 2:30AM because this has taken way too long to write thanks to distractions. Now I'm going to try and record my audio journal. We'll see how my throat holds up.
