Today happened.
This morning before I went to work I had time to record my
read-through of my tutorial script. The plan was to edit it at work
today but that didn't happen for a couple of reasons. The first, and
most important, was that I did send the whole file to myself, so I
had nothing to edit. The second reason is because I was on desk for
five hours, had an hour-long meeting, and did walkthroughs, which
didn't leave a lot of time to do any editing. I also haven't had
time to listen to the audio, so I have no idea how it turned out. I
might need to record it again for all I know. Other than the
recording I didn't accomplish anything tutorial-related at work,
which is a shame because I've still got a lot to do.
As mentioned previously, I had a meeting today with my former
practicum supervisor about our conference presentation. That went
well, it was really just a broad overview to get an idea of what
needs to be done. We also talked about possible cross-promotional
opportunities between our libraries because the university has a lot
of students (like most of them) that meet the demographic we're
trying to reach at the public library. We'll see what comes of it
but I got some good ideas.
I'm neck-deep in my current ecourse and today I was volunteered for
an expensive webinar at the end of the month (I think) that is about
information literacy and alternative facts. We are going to have a
class like that in our adulting series so I came to mind. The head
of the library system in our basement got the initial email and I
think she passed it along to my boss to see if anyone in our
department would be willing to attend the webinar and then do a
presentation or two for the librarians in the library system. They
also agreed to pay for it in exchange for the presentations. No
pressure. I'm looking forward to it though because I have been
interested in information literacy since we talked about it in my
classes, and have wanted to teach a class, or at least bring one to
the library, since I got the job. This will be really good for the
upcoming class next semester. It's a really good opportunity.
While I was on the desk I helped the occasional patron and
started/finished a personalized reading list. It was for a teenager,
which we usually pass on to our teen librarian, but I'm a fan of YA
and like having the opportunity to discover what's happening in the
YA world. I ended up adding a few books to my to-read list.
During my brief times off desk I pulled a bunch of back-up books for
the bestsellers display and came up with an idea for my newspaper
article that is due next Wednesday. At first I was going to write
about books with green covers. That is still going to get a mention
but now I want to write about how it can be good to judge a book by
its cover. I only had a little bit of time so I was only able to
wander around and find non-fiction books with interesting covers.
I'll need to wander around the fiction section next week. Or maybe
just stick with non-fiction. I don't know. I do need to start
writing this weekend though. Although I only took a picture of the
covers, I didn't actually bring the books home with me, so I might
have to wait to start writing on Monday. Ideally it would be
finished by Tuesday so there is time to proofread and edit.
I've got a lot of stuff on my plate at the moment.
When I got off work I clicked around the internet and watched YouTUbe
videos. Now I'm going to record my audio journal. Tomorrow I need
to accomplish a lot of stuff. My fingers are crossed.
