My cutout spent the day in the workroom in the office. Peeking out
from around the copy machine. I learned this when I first got to
work because the Boys & Girls Club girl that sits out in the
lobby told me it scared the crap out of her this morning. It also
scared several other people throughout the day. The gift that keeps
on giving.
I had a few first graders come to finish their MAP tests this
morning. One of them had to stop the other day because an error kept
popping up that would let him answer any questions without the test
crashing. It didn't matter which computer we put him on and the same
thing happened this morning. After trying several times I sent him
back to his room and emailed the lady above me who deals with all the
MAP stuff. She emailed the MAP people and followed whatever steps
they told her to do and she got back to me that the problem should be
resolved. We'll find out next week.
Shortly after the MAP testers left, my second grade spelling test
kids showed up. About an hour later that usual, and I haven't seen
them in weeks because of testing, but their timing was perfect. And
it is apparently their last spelling test of the year. They were
noisy throughout the test but I said screw it and just kept reading
words.
Throughout the rest of the morning I worked on spreadsheets and took
numerous breaks to help sixth graders format their science fair
papers and graphs. The lab was a revolving door this morning with
sixth graders trying to finish up all their science fair stuff.
This afternoon I continued working on my spreadsheets. I didn't get
around to printing off any reports but hopefully on Monday. Most of
the classes should be completely done by then, with fully updated
reports, so I can knock out a big chunk. I am also hoping that all
the tests I requested to be deleted, will have been deleted by
Monday. I can't remember how long that usually takes.
There was a choir performance this afternoon. The kids had spent all
day touring around the different schools in the district and we were
the last stop. They looked tuckered out. Some of them had clearly
given up on putting any energy into the choreography but I think a
lot of them probably looked the same way during their first stop of
the day. Regardless, it was enjoyable. The songs were pretty good
and even the choreography that was lacking in energy was
entertaining. At one point a fourth grade boy had a solo and as soon
as he finished his second grade brother went nuts with clapping for
him. It was pretty great.
After the performance I was still sitting in my chair when the mom I
work with the yearbook on came and sat next to me. The yearbooks
came in and she handed me one to look at, on the down-low. They look
really professional. The color looks good and it just feels like it
is well made. I glanced over most stuff but I did take a closer look
at the staff pictures that were too tall and I had to put white bars
over them to hide it. I can still tell but it's not obvious. I also
looked at the pictures of the kids I had to take with my phone and
edit down to size. They came out really well. And, most
importantly, I looked at the misspelling on the sponsors page. The
last time I looked at the book online it hadn't been changed. But
thankfully, it got changed at some point and everything appeared to
be spelled correctly. I think I will be more proud of this yearbook
than I was last year. I put a lot more work into lasts years because
I had to make the pages from scratch and type all the names in, but I
also completely called a sixth grader by the wrong name. And no one
caught it and I still feel bad. This year I was sure to send a
preview out to all the teachers to make sure everything was right,
which is good because there were errors. So I am happy now. We'll
see how I feel when I have more time to look at the book.
After school I stopped by the mall to get a gift card for my mom and
then went home to lay down. I had been battling a sharp headache
most of the day and I was pretty much over it. I only had about
thirty minutes before I needed to eat dinner and get ready to go to
the theater, so I took some Ibuprofen and laid down for those thirty
minutes. I don't believe I ever fell asleep but it was relaxing
enough, along with the pills, to kill my headache. It was very
difficult convincing myself I needed to sit up though. I will
probably have doubles this summer at the theater but I am looking
forward to only working one job.
And speaking of, the theater was pretty boring tonight. One theater
has a messed up automation system so stuff has to be done manually,
but other than that there was a lot of nothing. I continued working
on my purple scarf, reading Pooh And The Psychologists, and
reading 11/22/63. I got a little caught up with reading and
didn't make nearly as much progress on the scarf as I would have
liked so I need to try and make up for that tomorrow. Time is slowly
running out but I am feeling good about my chances of finishing now.
By the end of the weekend I should be safely under two feet to go.
And that is estimating a six foot scarf. I might stop before that
length because she is quite a bit shorter than me. I'll have to
check into that. It is kind of annoying making something for
someone, unbeknownst to them, because getting their input would be
very helpful.
