Let's make this a thing that happens quickly so I can go to bed.
This morning I woke up and got ready earlier than normal so I could
go over to the house and unlock it for the carpet guys. I also went
around and put sticky notes on the parts of the floor that squeaked
so they knew where to put screws, on the cables coming out of the
floors so they could cut them and not worry about dealing with those
with the new carpet, and I put a note by one of the scent things
saying they could unplug them if they became too smelly. About an
hour after getting to work I got a call from the main guy saying they
were at the house, it had to go to voicemail because I was in the
middle of something but I called him right back. I basically let him
know all the same information that I had written down on the sticky
notes, just to reiterate the points.
At work I did things. I worked on my budget presentation, I helped
the occasional patron, answered some emails, talked with my
coworkers, and probably did some other things. It was one of those
days that kind of happened but wasn't entirely memorable. One of the
emails I answered was from a college senior who is interested in
going to library school and becoming a librarian. I was partial to
responding, being a recent graduate of library school, because all
the librarians I spoke to when I was making my decision and then
while in school were really helpful and supportive. I am part of
that community now and I want to be a worthy ambassador of the
profession. I got input from my boss and fellow librarians and
included all of that information in my response. Hopefully she will
find it helpful.
After work I went over to lock up the house. I did a quick
walkthrough and took some pictures just because. The main guy had to
leave early because of a family emergency but they managed to get all
the carpet pulled up and they got the carpet pad installed upstairs.
It looks like it will probably be a three day job, but that was a
possibility going into it so I'm not too concerned. It seemed like
they were able to get rid of the big squeaks in the floor upstairs so
that's a definite plus.
Also, the first thing I noticed when I walked in, other than all the
carpet work underway, was the beep of a smoke detector battery dying.
It wasn't beeping this morning and I hope it wasn't going off most
of the day because that would have been annoying for the carpet guys.
I pulled it down and brought it with me so I could replace the
battery and take it back tomorrow.
Tonight was supper weird. For some reason I was overcome with
tiredness. I wanted to work a little bit more on my budget
presentation but instead I took a couple short naps at my desk and in
general just kind of felt out of it. Not sure what was going on.
I tried to schedule another service appointment tonight but that was
unsuccessful because I couldn't log into the Cox site. I don't
believe I ever created an online account, just signed up for service
and scheduled the installation, so I tried to register online. I
couldn't do it with an account number because I didn't know my
account number. My order for the service included the last four
digits of my account number but I never got the full number. When I
tried to register using my address I got an error. I tried using the
online chat feature, which was successful in getting me my account
number but unsuccessful in getting me registered. Their final
opinion that something was wrong with the website. I'm not really
surprised by that. Tomorrow or something I'm going to try going into
the local store and seeing if they can get an appointment set up.
The store is notoriously awful when it comes to customer service so
we'll see what happens. My opinion of Cox involves a very low bar so
I'm not expecting miracles. I've still got some time before I expect
to be fully moved into the house so for the moment the internet is
not an immediate need. My outlook will change when I have all my
stuff moved in and I'm still running in circles trying to get the
internet but we'll cross that bridge when it inevitably appears. I
probably made things more difficult today by having the carpet guys
cut the cables coming out of the floor, including the one the
technician hooked up to the internet, but as I have said before, I
don't want a cable coming up out of the carpet in my living room. So
yeah, we'll see what happens.
It's now after midnight and I'm going to go to bed. Tomorrow is
going to be a long day with little sleep. I have to get up even
earlier so I can go vote before heading over to unlock the house
before going to work. At work I need to finalize my presentation and
go over it before my class in the afternoon. I also need to figure
out the handouts I want to make and update the website. Hopefully it
is not a busy morning on the desk.
