November 6, 2016

This morning I gained an hour because I forgot about Daylight Saving. I celebrated by not doing anything with that extra hour. So kind of a waste but whatever.

After lunch I started my day. I went over to the house to measure toilet seats before going to Home Depot. The measuring ended up being unnecessary because by the time I had all the cover plates I needed I couldn't carry anything else. Following Home Depot I stopped by a local hardware store to see if they had solid green keys. They did not but the girl behind the desk was nice so at least I had a positive human interaction. And the hunt for a green key continues.

When I got back to the house my Mom was there cleaning the kitchen. She said she met the neighbors and that they were a nice younger couple. They will apparently be moving soon because the guy is finishing up something for college and the lady just got a new job in a nearby town. I imagine at some point I'll run into them. If the time on market in the neighborhood holds up, once they move I'll have the duplex to myself for quite awhile.

While my mom worked on the kitchen, cleaning and putting drawer paper in all the drawers and cabinets, I went around and finished putting new plates on all of the switches, outlets, and cable hookups. I ended up having to use one of the big ones I got for downstairs in the upstairs hallway, so I was one short downstairs. I also need to get a few more because my count wasn't quite perfect. But I should be able to grab some toilet seats when I go back to Home Depot. I want to eventually replace the toilets, because I think they're all round and I don't like round toilets.

It took quite awhile to go around and replace all the cover plates but I'd say it was worth it because the place looks a lot better. By the time my mom and I were both done it was dinner time so we headed out. She stopped to get a Happy Meal on the way home and I got a Little Caesar's pizza because pizza is always good.

With the rest of my night I did laundry, watched the last episode of season two of iZombie, and watched YouTube videos. I did not work on my budget presentation. I'm on the desk for four hours tomorrow so that should give me a decent chance to wrap things up. Hopefully. And if not there is always tomorrow night. Hopefully. The season finale for iZombie was good. And I'm excited for season three. I did a brief bit of reading and it is supposed to start sometime in the spring of next year, which means it will be even longer before it's on Netflix, but at least when it is I won't have to wait a week between episodes. There is also a rumor that season three may be the last because apparently the ratings were down for season two. I think that is ridiculous because it's still a really good show. Maybe Netflix will pick it up if it does get canceled. Fingers crossed.

Soon I will be going to bed because I have to wake up for work in the morning. And I have to wake up a little bit earlier so I can head over to the house and unlock it for the carpet guys before work. I'm also going to go around and put notes on the two squeaky spots I want them to fix and near the cables in the floor that I don't want them to accommodate with the new carpet. I may want cable in each room in the future but if so I'm not going to have the cables coming out of the middle of the floor. With the internet now hooked up (in theory) to the one coming out of the carpet in the living room, that will create a bit of a problem, but I've already decided I want try again with a new technician so having them cut the cable will be more incentive to have that happen.

Speaking of, I filled out the survey for the experience yesterday. Despite what the technician tried to sell me yesterday regarding the survey, I answered it truthfully. He said the first question was about the technician even though it was asking if I would recommend Cox to other people. I rated that relatively low because I would not recommend them. We had a horrible experience trying to get the internet when we first moved into this house and I don't know that I have ever seen us getting the advertised speeds for the internet. I realize they are “up to” those speeds, and not guaranteed at all times, but you'd think we'd hit it every now and then. I continued giving the scores I thought were appropriate and then I wrote quite a bit in the comment section, detailing my experience and why I scored the way I did. Now I need to set up another service appointment so I can get the cable installed in the correct room. Possibly related, the couple next door told my mom their cable had been out for a day and a half. That sounds like before my technician was there, and it might explain why my internet wasn't working. I would also not be surprised if my technician did something that screwed things up.

Now I'm going to bed.
