This morning I drove to work in the
dark. I prefer driving in the dark but not early in the morning on
my way to work. Much too early. And then I spent somewhere over an
hour sitting in a meeting about insurance. Thrilling stuff. My boss
made the observation that the chairs in the auditorium are just
uncomfortable enough so that you won't fall asleep. By the end of
the meeting I felt like I should use half my paycheck every month on
supplemental insurance plans to protect me against the inevitable.
And then pray for some horrible malady so that I get my money's
worth. I did end up signing up for the identity protection option.
That was offered when I started in June but there was an overwhelming
amount of information flying at me and I didn't want to start my
first grown-up job by signing over half my paycheck to supplemental
insurance. But, now that I a mortgage and significant financial
obligations, I figured it's probably a good idea to put a little
money toward not getting screwed out of the rest of my money.
Today I worked on my budget
presentation and added a few more slides. Getting closer. I also
finished updating all my statistics stuff for October. Now I need to
start recording usability stuff for the website so I can review
those.
I probably spent a couple hours,
maybe more, making a personalized reading list. I like making those
but it also leads to my own to-read list growing. It would also be
nice at some point to get feedback on one of the lists I have made.
For the last few I started attaching the feedback for as a Word
document and a PDF, and included a line that they could also email
the feedback to us, instead of dropping it off at the library. I'm
trying to give as many options as possible. I think maybe after a
certain period of time maybe we should send another email reminding
the patron about the feedback form. I don't know if that would be
considered pestering but feedback is nice. It makes picking out
books for homebound patrons a lot easier and it would be nice if
we're in the ballpark with the personalized reading lists or if there
is something we should be doing differently.
Tonight was Chipotle night and I got
salsa for the first time in awhile. It was a nice change but I don't
know that I will continue that. After dinner I showed videos and
then we watched a little bit of the World Series game. I spent the
rest of my evening watching YouTube videos and looking at cross
stitch stuff.
My projector arrived today and the
packaging was horrible. It came it a regular cardboard box that is
clearly branded with what is inside, thankfully no pictures though.
There was also a giant handle tab spot on the side that could be
popped out, and if it was popped out you could reach in and grab the
remote control and power cord without a problem. More easily than
getting chips out of a Pringles can. You'd think they would extend
the tape down a few more inches but to be safe, or at least make it
more obvious if someone had opened it. The odd thing was that the
top of the lid had a sticker across the tabs saying it was a security
seal. Kind of like leaving your windows open and just putting the
sign for a home security company in your yard without actually
getting the security system. Anyway, I'm assuming everything is in
the box. I might try setting it up this weekend to make sure it
works but I don't actually want to set it up or leave it at the new
house until the carpet is installed because I plan on just having my
sister go unlock the door for the carpet people and not making her
stick around. I don't have anything against the carpet people but
there will also be some time while when they and my sister will be
gone and the house will be unlocked, so having nothing in the house
seems like the best option.
I got an email that my modem has
shipped and it is now supposed to be here tomorrow, not Monday, which
is good news because that means when they come to install stuff for
the internet on Saturday I'll actually have the internet. And we'll
be good if they need to test things to make sure it actually works.
Now I'm going to go to bed because
it is midnight. I don't work until noon but I would like to wake up
with enough time to read in the morning. And maybe call the carpet
people about Monday. They took my down payment but never got around
to emailing me to confirm the installation. They really need to work
on their communication. I have now been told twice that I would get
an email and we're sitting a zero for two on those emails without me
having to bring it up again. I would like to get an actual time
frame so my sister knows when to go over. I also want to confirm the
fixing of the squeaking floors and let them know I don't need all the
cable and phone cords coming out of the floors so they don't need to
worry about those with the new carpet.
So it's bedtime so maybe I can get
some things done in the morning.
