The other day I was talking to my Mom and mentioned I was thinking
about hiring a cleaning company to go through the new house (if the
bank doesn't screw me out of it) before I move in. My mom thought
that was a good idea and said that my grandma had cleaned my Mom and
Dad's first apartment kitchen and my Mom had cleaned their first
house. She didn't plan on doing that for my house because she said
she was younger back than and didn't see that happening anymore. I
commented that I didn't think I was ever not old. She thought about
it for a second and said “I don't think you were either.” It was
a very non-sarcastic comment, which is rare, but also interesting. I
do feel like I have always been old. Not only because my knees have
sucked since a young age and I started getting kidney stones in my
early twenties, but I have always looked at things with a healthy
dose of common sense and I try and live responsibly. I let my
friends do the crazy youthful things and learned from their mistakes
so I didn't have to make them. I'm okay with that. It's just
interesting.
This morning I woke up earlier than I would have liked because of
dogs but I stayed in bed until I actually needed to get up. Then I
got ready, ate lunch, and went to work. My main goal today was
coming up with a display idea for the main display next month. I had
a moment of inspiration not too long after getting to work. It is
called Be Prepared: For Whatever November Brings. At least for now.
I might change that later. The idea is that it will cover everything
from cookbooks about Fall food to dealing with family to preparing
your house for winter to whatever else people do in November. I
think it has potential. We'll see if it goes anywhere. A big chunk
of my day was spent making the sign for it, which is a collection of
Polaroid-shaped pictures representing the various themes within the
display. I didn't like any of the Polaroid-shaped templates I found
online so I made my own. It would have been much quicker if I could
have found a decent one that suited my needs. But it all worked out
and the sign is done. This evening I made my book list so tomorrow I
can go pull the books and get them ready for next week.
I spent the end of my shift tonight working on my budget
presentation. I'm getting there. I just want it to be good and
useful, and I think I'm getting there.
I got the closing disclosure today and the best estimate of what the
closing cost will be. Tomorrow on my lunch break I'm going to stop
by the bank to get the cashiers check. Yet another shortened lunch.
I also need to schedule the carpet and the cleaning. If I still have
time after the bank I'll call about the carpet. If not, there's
always Saturday.
After work there wasn't a lot of time so I watched some YouTube
videos and shortly I will be going to bed. I always look forward to
bed.
