October 17, 2016

This morning I slept in but I did not oversleep because I remembered to turn my alarm on last night. It was nice being able to sit down and eat my lunch.

At work today I did things. I started by calling my homebound patrons to let them know I would be coming out on Wednesday. Then I threw together a presentation for the staff meeting next week. I might add some more to it but for now there should be enough content to reach our five to ten minute goal.

We got the information for my new homebound patron so I made a list of books and got those pulled. For the moment she is my favorite patron because she doesn't require large print books and there isn't a long list of books that she's already read that I can't pick from. Our large print collection is a big limiting factor with most of the homebound patrons and the longer we've had them as patrons the more they have read so the smaller our collection gets. It's great having access to our regular collection and not having to double-check all of my choices against a list of previously checked-out books. It's great.

This evening I weeded seventy-five books. That's a lot of books but not many compared to how many books I actually looked through. I'm still in a fairly popular section apparently because the books are either too new or check out way more than they should. That is great news for the books but also makes my weeding feel less than productive.

As far as patron interactions went, I helped one with the copier and helped another with the microfilm machine and gave him directions to get out of town. There was one “bad” interaction via chat where a patron in the computer lab used chat to complain about kids being loud. It is supposed to be a quiet place but there wasn't any school today so there were more kids in the library than usual. I told the patron I would call down to see what the problem was and they replied with the suggestion that there should be more than one person watching the lab when kids were there. I said I would let someone know and they said not to worry, that they would just go let the city commissioners know that adults were no longer welcome at the library, and then they logged off before I could respond. Gotta love some of our patrons.

When I got home from work I watched some YouTube videos and now I'm watching the beginning of the singleplayer campaign for Battlefield 1. I want to buy the game eventually for the singleplayer campaign because it looks awesome and I have been tired of all the futuristic FPS games as of late. I like that they went back to WWI. I don't really have much interest in the multiplayer because I suck at multiplayer and with Battlefield 4 I feel like I lost interest pretty quickly. I spent too much time running around looking for people and then getting immediately killed when I finally find them. I think it would be a fun game to play with friends but I don't have those so the singleplayer is the main draw. I can get it for $46 right now rather than $60 but I am also probably buying a house at the end of the month and that $46 could go toward something more practical, like food.

Now I'm going to go to bed because it is late. I have tomorrow off because I worked this weekend and I think my main goal is to sleep in and then read a book. I have so many books checked out right now and I just keep checking out more. I need to be reading a lot more but I am still recovering from school and getting past the idea of reading because I have to. I'm slowly getting back into reading for fun but it is taking some time.
